Title: 1989 Question
Post by: whttnbrg on February 09, 2011, 05:33:27 PM
Is a running 89 with 8000 miles on it (if the gauges were not changed) Worth $950.00

If clean, rust free, tank not dented and free of rust then I would buy it.
Junior was a good deal at $1100. He's a 92 with everything OK and a good tank (which I replaced with a new one and should sell his as it is free of rust).
If someone did lots of stupid mods, consider what it would take to being it back to normal. If pretty original, clean and runs good, where is it so I can buy it?

it has 1 small dent in the tank, the paint is kinda faded. It cranks and runs good. It is in New Orleans. I want to talk him down and use it for a parts bike.

Tank can be replaced or repaired. Paint fixed. New tail plastics can be put on. Belly pan, headlight cowling, rear sets... oh, wait, then it'd be a brother to Junior!

Too far away for me to get. If cheap, parts is OK. Otherwise it sounds like good enough to fix and ride. Always talk down the price.

Go for it. The cheaper the better. Sounds to good to part out.

I rode over there, when he looked at my 95, he just told me to make him an offer. I said $200, but was prepared to pay more than twice that. He looked at mine, looked at his, then asked what mine was worth. I said $1000, He looked at his again and said Ok, I will take $200. I had my wife follow me in the truck, so I was prepared to take it home anyway. We put it in the back and took it home.

That's a 90 Gs.

Come with a Title....? Red paint always fades more ( anything red does ) than other colors.
Complete and running for $200 - Nice deal.

It is running, it has its issues. A Broken mirror, lots of scrathes from being laid down, but over all it is complete. He didnt have a title, he had the expired registration, and gave me a bill of sale. He signed a affidavit of ownership too. Said he lost the title in Katrina. My plan is to use it for parts anyway.

Was the bike under water?

$200 for a parts bike (running) with no title is still decent.
Enjoy.

No, at the time the bike had a plate. He says he rode it to Monroe La and stayed there for 3 years. The plate that was on it expired last year. He told me he would file for lost title if I paid the fees. I had a cop friend run the VIN and made sure it was legit too.

I'd file for the paperwork for it- fix it...sell it....but that's just me.

At the very least you can sell the frame with a title.

I was thinking it was a 89 because the date on the frame was 7/89
