I spent the weekend in the garage. The GS is cleaned up serviced and ready for a tank of gas.
I pulled it out of the corner and started cleaning her up and getting her ready to go. Took all of this extremely cold winter to get her painted and ready for spring. But the LED lights are done the paint is done the service is done and I'm done waiting for spring. 40* is still a little cold for a ride but it's ready when the weather is now.
My other project isnt even close. But I dont anticipate riding it that much if I do keep it.
BTW if anybody wants an old Ironhead Harley. I've got a 72 Sportster hard tail in the garage I've been rebuilding. I may sell it and go find a Vstar Shadow or Vulcan so that I can take the wife for a ride this summer.

The GS looks nice, clean and eager...what do you mean 40F isn't warm enough...?? If there is no snow or ice, get out there...if my street and all my neighbourhood wasn't still snow and ice covered, I would have been out there yesterday...beautiful weather...+5C (41F)...I rode until it snowed in November...-6C (21F) in the mornings, but I need to get hand guards if I am going to ride in that weather again...fingers were pretty cold by the time I got to work... ;)
We are getting winter back again starting tomorrow...daytime highs of -10C to -15C (14 to 5F), so riding won't be on my schedule for a few weeks yet...but I stay hopeful!!
Later.
67 today and sunny, 65 yesterday, 58 saturday and windy as hell, sadly I spent saturday outside on the various piles of metal I got laying about, and sunday am and a twisted ankle later I ended up spending sunday indoors icing my leg - yea, winter is back atleast in my right leg.
Anyway ... this morning I am feeling much better, but - its forgot to take the pain killer better. So if it holds I'd be back out there kicking it later in the week.
Cool.
Buddha.
Here in Finland this week forecast shows temperatures from -20°C to -30°C (-4F to -22F). Hoping to start the season in April. :D

It's not the snow or ice, it's the crap all over the roads. Till we get a good spring rain it's like riding on marbles.
Relax Buddah plenty of time left to worry about all the junk! Take care of yourself.
I was kinda stoked yesterday.... I got to put my GStwin decals on. :woohoo:
I am a real weakling I have figured that out. Full of bad joints and muscles and what not.
Cool.

Naw man, it's called getting OLD!! :flipoff:
The answer is to move more often...I know that's what I need to do...push away from the computer and do something... :thumb:
Later.
Looks good!
Are you gonna do something about that chain before spring?
Nope!
Its a gold link chain that went on last year. Its just filthy.
Here I put some WD-40 on a rag and wiped it off....

I love Texas :)
Rode yesterday from 10am to 6pm. Was probably 75ish in the sun and low 60s in the shade.

Way better! :thumb:
So it's a GS500 with BLING?? :icon_mrgreen:
Couldn't help myself... :icon_twisted:

Hell yeah! Put sum bling on tha thang!
I like em they are easier to clean and inspect. Link hop shows really well as it tears up the gold and you start seeing silver. a silver chain is already silver and this coating is tough as nails.
I greased it up when I put it away for the winter. Normally I'd pull it out of the garage spray the chain and sprockets with degreaser and then wash the bike and then the drive chain and sprockets and hit it all with a fresh coat of chain lube. But since you were worried I thought I'd get the chain wiped down so you could see I'm not totally nuts :cookoo:
When I have to replace mine (if I still own the GS next year) I will go with the blue chain...since I have the Blue/Silver combo...until I decide what type of bike I want to get, I'm just keeping the GS...maybe I'll get over myself and realize that the GS is what I am looking for...??
Later.

Yea ... and when I was in houston in 08 it was a scarcely believable 95 degrees in the third week of march. That is far too hot for me. I'd rather endure some cold for a break from the 90 degree days.
The temps hit the 60's this week and I am just fine with that. Its still 40's in the mornings and nights.
Cool.

I lived in central Texas for about 4 years and I remember jumping on the bike for Valentines day and heading up to Kansas. It was freezing up there. I should have turned around at OKC.
I've ridden year around here in NE Ohio for 27 years now in temps down to 20F as long as streets are free of ice and snow but this has been one of the worst winters ever for riding. Got a couple rides in the first week in Jan but haven't been out since but I'll be out again today or tomorrow with this current heatwave (above freezing days) depending on how soon the ice is melted away in the long driveways here at the apts. About time, most winters I don't go more than a week or 10 days between rides at the most.
Chain color? Mine is a rust color this time of year, they use a lot of salt on the streets here. But it does match the rest of my ageing bike that way. :icon_lol:
I used to ride year round when it was my transportation. I live in the city now though so I just bicycle/walk when I need to get somewhere and then just ride for fun. I usually hold off if it's less than 45 degrees.
If I had something with some meaty tires I'd be tempted to go out when everything was covered in snow. I'm pretty sure I'd just hurt myself on the current bike though.
Its been lovely weather for riding down here in Australia (if you ignore the fact that there has been floods, bush fires and cyclones lol), 23C to 31C (73F to 88F) today, about the same all week :thumb:
The ocean was about 25 (77) when I went for a swim yesterday.
Last winter was bad though, got down around 5 (40) one night. :D

5C, thats tough :tongue2: , pretty sure we didnt get much below 10C where I am, but if we did, would have been for all of half a night lol
Well, today it was kinda hot :o I'm seriously thinking it is about time to put the leather jacket away and go with my GXAir until Nov. Was 82 today think Bike week might be soon. Anyone gonna be coming to the Daytona area. Might be able to bail from work. Dr says no work until 3-1 and having rotator cuff surgery on 3-5 so hopefully I can get some riding in before it turns to hades down here!
Mary
Finished! (well minus some cleanup) Shes all done and ready for some good weather.

Amen, Jack! My memory generally sucks but since I love to ride I remember the gist of every winter since I started riding in the late '70's. Here in the NE U.S. we've had the highest percentage of days below freezing with snow on the ground this winter than I can remember. Have there been colder winters? Yes. Snowier winters? Yes. Tenacious and with fewer breaks? No.
Yesterday was 86 here tomorrow morning supposed to be hight 30's WTF thought I lived in Florida. Once I recover from shoulder surgery I'm sure our nice weather will be gone and hell will have arrived!
Mary
Yesterday was 50 then last night about 29 and snow. 30's today and tomorrow 50 again. We've got some nasty flooding around these parts right now.
OMG! I spent yesterday cleaning carbs for good measure. A balmy 71* here today. I couldnt resist . Gas, Prime, and hit the switch. What a beautiful sound after a long winter. That wasn't enough though. Move the Blazer and out the door I went. Absolutely beautiful!
True Zen!
Might hit 53 tomorrow (St. Paul) so I'll be out the door for the 1st ride of the year.
Rode my new GS500F home from the dealership, today. They tell me it was only 38°, here in So. MN. I was so concentrated on getting us home, unscathed, I didn't even notice. Yeah... Looking forward to nifty fifties, tomorrow! :woohoo:
