She is loud. She is red. And she is damn fun to ride. My Ducati Monster 1000ie. A new stable mate for the GS. At this stage I am still keeping the GS. It is to good a bike to let go.

Hmmm. Played with the settings on the camera and the quality seems to have gone. Ah well.
aye. keep hte gs for when the duc breaks or goes down for service. keep your eye on teh cam belt/chain
Yep got new belts to go in. The 2v motors in these are just as reliable as a GS. The previous owner had a 900 monster with 110,000 kms on the clock and it was still purring. Like any bike, regular servicing will contribute well to the motors life.
Man this thing is a blast to ride.
so is the one that buell produced it was a blast to ride as well. lol i jest anyhoo, is that a dry clutch i see on it. or a slipper perhaps?
Yes open dry clutch, not a slipper. Very loud when in neutral. I am considering putting the OEM cover back on to quite it down a tad as I live in a block of units.
SWEET!! Nice new toy :thumb:...the only thing I have heard about the Ducati's is the valve adjustment interval is pretty short??...that and they are quite desireable...keep it locked up :police:, my cousin had his stolen from his front porch...I guess he should have parked it in his living room... ;)
Later.
I hate my work internet. I'll have to wait until I get home to check out the pictures. I'm sure it looks sweet though. :dunno_black:
EDIT: home now and got to check out the pictures. Sweet looking bike :thumb: That red looks really good. You gotten much of a chance to ride it yet??

Yes! I make any excuse to get on it. You, being a Buell owner would get the same aural pleasure I do cruising around? It definitely turns heads. I pulled up to get petrol the other day and it took me half an hour to fill it due to all the guys who stopped to talk about the bike. It is a fun ride. No waiting for that long passing opportunity like on the GS. Just pull out and quick twist and you are past. Not as agile as the GS but much more confident through the bends. I will do a review for your thread after a few months of riding :thumb:

I was looking at one I was interested in last year...the thing sounded like a jackhammer!! I could only imagine the complaints I'd get from neighbors.

Yeh kinda. You got to replace the belts every 2 years or 20,000kms. There is a company who makes the belts now for half the cost of genuine and made from the exact same material. They cost about $120. And vavles need to be checked every major service which is every 12,000kms

Yes, they make quite a racket. Like a handful of bolts in a fish bowl. Only when in neutral though. It isn't like that when the bike is under load. It is a LOT quieter with the OEM cover on I have found.

Ditto to that. Man that sucker without the OEM cover is loud. Louder than the exhaust. Can't sneak up on anyone like that.
Gonna give it a name? Already got a name?
Michael
I am very very jealous.
Would have to be a classic Italian name like Sophia or Francesca

I just gotta learn how to ride it like you ride your GS and embarrass some WRX's on it yet :thumb:

That's quite a memory you've got, my bike AND my comparison thread, haha. There's definitely a feeling you get out of a bike like a ducati/buell that you don't get from a japanese bike with an inline2/4 motor. You barely even have to be doing anything on it to have fun. Even riding in a straight line going 15mph listening to the engine rumble is increadibly satisfying. In general I love quiet bikes, I actually get more excited about electric motorcycles than anyone I know because of the noise, but my Buell is still ridiculously loud. If it was something else I'd probably have the stock exhaust on it, and I still don't care for it being as loud as it is, but it just makes such a rumble that I've gotta let it do what it wants. It's definitely fun having a sportbike that sounds like a harley with the stares you get from people. I don't mind a few looks when I'm riding, but in general I'm not much of an attention seeker, but I know what you're talking about with people coming around. If I stop at a bike night, by the time I come back to my bike to leave I've usually gotta squeeze through a group of about 5 or 6 people circled around my bike, answer a couple questions, and then put on my helmet, start the bike, and pull away while they're all standing there watching, it still makes me slightly uncomfortable, haha. I'm the kinda person who tries to leave a party quietly by just putting on my jacket and walking out the door, I try to avoid that situation where everyone sees you and wants to say goodbye so I do miss when I used to be able to just walk up to my flat black normal sounding bike, stick on my helmet and ride out without anyone getting in my way. A plus side for you is when everyone comes up and says "ooh is that a Ducati??" you can just say yes. I get asked that question all the time, but have to say no, and explain what it is, who makes it, why, and everything else just because most people assume that all naked bikes are ducatis.
I was gonna tell you to write something up for that thread, but I figured I'd give you some time before I bugged you about it haha
Love Monsters, very nice bike. :thumb:
Congrats on the new ride!
Terry you had one. got pics of it?, what model was it? and also didnt you have a YT of it running? that thing sounded evil. hell had i had the money i would have bought it. was a KILLER price for it
Just purchased some ASV levers for her. Hope they're no to much of a pain in the ass to fit :icon_neutral:
The levers should be easy. I swapped the ones on my bike and it takes about 2 minutes per side and makes life so much better. I think of anything I've ever done to a bike, replacing my levers was probably the best thing I've done. I didn't even get fancy ones, I just bought some cheap ones off ebay for $50, but they're amazing compared to stock plus I love the short levers compared to full length.
Yeh the stock ones on mine are a little pitted and found a near new set for cheap while "window" shopping on eBay. I have heard a lot of people comment that a new set of levers is the best upgrade they've done to their bike. Weird because you wouldn't think they would make to much of a difference.
The thing I really hate about most after market Ducati accessories is 90% of it is carbon fibre. Am I the only one who hates look of it? To me it is tacky and I think it has a lot to do with young guys decking there trashed bikes out in it.
Met a girl on a 900 monster yesterday at the bike shop (she wasn't to bad on the eye either) who had CF all over her bike. Maybe a piece her or there is ok I spose but not CF everything. She had the Cf high rise termigoni pipes installed too which was good cause I wanted to compare them to my Ducati Perfomance Remus ones. TBH I think mine are louder and sound more crisp than the Termis.

haha, I don't care for carbon fiber either. I think it's ok in small amounts, or if the girl who owns the bike is cute :thumb:
It's definitely not the upgrade you'd think of, and I still don't know that I'd pay $200-300 like some people do for levers, but it's like a whole new bike now that I've replaced the stock levers. I used to think there was something wrong with my brakes because when I'm in stop and go city traffic I just like to keep 1 finger on the brake. I could slow down gently that way, but if I tried to squeeze the brake any harder than that it felt like there was resistance for a split second, then it would grab too much brake. It was super irritating in traffic and the only way to avoid it was to actually use 3 or 4 fingers on the brake. Once I swapped the levers I found out that it was just the old lever. It must've had too much friction on the plunger or something of that sort. I can ride perfectly with 1 finger in traffic now. My bike came with a short reach clutch lever too since it was previously a female owned bike, but they did give me the original lever too. The short reach felt good but it didn't feel like it was pulling the clutch in as far as it should. The stock lever was too far away for the size of my hand. having the adjustability of the new ones has been great. Shame no one makes some better levers for the GS.
Installed the levers today without to much hassle. They are the shorty version as well. Will takes some pics soon.

Ah, the things I do to embarrass myself. Went for a quick trip into town today on the Monster, parked up outside an accountants office. When I came back to my bike I start it and put into gear, it konks out. Ok start it in neutral. pop it into first, konks out again. After installing the new levers I think something has come loose of the clutch neutral switch. I fiddle around with it and notice its a touch loose but ok ok.
In the meantime a guy from the accountants office has come out and says to me "Having a bit of trouble hey?"
"Yeh I just installed these new levers and I think somethings come loose"
" How about putting the side stand up" He says with a big smile.
Oh the shame...................
I did that the other day. Rode for about a half hour, and pulled into a parking lot next to the park to relax for a few minutes. When I jumped back on the bike, I started it and went to put it into gear...bike died. I tried it about 4 more times and same thing. As I sat there scratching my head, it occured to me that the bike was still leaning on the side stand. I quick looked around to see if anyone had noticed the dumbass on the bike, and got out of there in a hurry. :embarrassed:
The spring on my sidestand isn't as tight as it once was 20 years ago. When I first started riding I could hit a bump and my bike would shut off. Eventually I just wrapped a zip tie around the tab on the sidestand and it works perfectly since it pushes the switch in 5mm more than it used to, but it really leaves you sitting there wondering what the issue is.

Yeh mine is a lil like that on my GS. You flick it up with your foot but sometimes it sags so won't let you start it. You get away with these thing on a GS cause no one is looking lol.
HA! GUy at works sells his Speedmaster to another guy we did work for. Next day new owner calls ready to abuse him for selling him a POS. Bike won't go, keeps konking out when put in gear, yadda yadda yadda. Um, did you put the sidestand Up? Oh, that thing, sorry to bother you.
Wait until someone puts your killswitch on when you aren't looking :icon_mrgreen:

Lol glad to hear I'm not the only one that's done that, thankfully no one saw me when I did it :icon_lol:
