Title: How Much in Reserve?
Post by: Pelikan on February 16, 2011, 04:58:05 PM
I'm trying to burn all the seafoam out of the gas before I tool with the carbs.  Even after running it down to reserve and topping off, I'm still getting some seafoam smoke at startup.

Sooo...I can put about 150 miles on the clock before I hit reserve.  Approximately how many more miles are in it once I switch over?  I want to run it as dry as possible, but don't want to get stranded.

I cant answer your question... but could you being a small gas container along for the ride? Periodically check on the amount you have left so you dont run it dry, and fill it up when you have to?

if you take out the drain screw in the carbs and switch to PRI, won't it drain out? albeit slowly?

Why not just drain the tank?

You really don't need to drain or burn off seafoam. Just fill up the tank with some fresh gas and it will dilute the seafoam to non-smoking levels. I run a full can of seafoam with full tank of gas in my GS occasionally and I don't notice any smoking.

It's not a full on smoke screen, just a little bit of white in the exhaust, most noticeable when first starting up at night.

I'm hoping it's the seafoam I put in there at any rate...otherwise, that's not good...

I normally get about 200miles on the main and fill up after another 34miles on the reserve.
