Title: GS500 Blue Book values
Post by: epoxy.guy on February 22, 2011, 05:38:30 PM

I found an interesting website to find out your motorcycles blue book value.  http://www.kbb.com/motorcycle/retail

Here are some values for the GS500 (prices might vary by State).

After about 5 years, the annual values only drops by $100 per year.  Guess the rest is going into maintenance.

2009   F   $3,570
2008   F   $3,195   -$375
2007   F   $2,965   -$230
2006   F   $2,640   -$325
2005   F   $2,550   -$90
2004   F   $2,460   -$90

2002   E   $1,755
2001   E   $1,650   -$105
2000   E   $1,575   -$75

Cheap bikes rule!!!

The other day I parked the bike at a local shopping center for several hours, hung my helmet on one of the hooks under the seat, and left the key in the seat lock (again  ) The bike sat untouched for nearly 4 hours.

Try that on an '02 Ducati or BMW and see how long your bike sits before it's stolen. My bike has an impenetrable stealth field of cheapness rendering it invisible to crooks.

Reading this makes me feel funny for having my naked '04 sitting under a cover, chained to my apartment's stairs, with a Xena XX10 disc lock/alarm on the front rotor, and locked steering. Then I remember that in the past 3 years I've had two mid range mountain bikes stolen from my apartment, and feel less strangely about the possibility of anti-theft security overkill.

I take the key from mine. That's about all the security mine gets. I don't even engage the steering lock. I mean why bother if someone hot wires it will probably be me after I lost the key.

Why '02?

Because my GS is an 02.

Sportbikes get stolen a lot more commonly than BMW's though. A duc would have vanished in minutes. A beemer - maybe not. A GSXR would have gone in seconds.
Cool.

Im more worried about leaving my Trek road bike outside a 7-11 for 2 mins when i run in for a drink, so i never do. I think my bicycle has a greater chance of being stolen, AND i paid more for it too

Just don't check the NADA values. They'll make you want to cry. A 92 GS in good condition is listed at about $350 on their site, haha. At least KBB listed mine around $1250 or so if I remember right. I was hoping to try and sell mine for $1500 this spring, but it also only has 17k miles on it, which isn't a lot for a 20 year old vehicle. My triumph had that in just a little over a year. I'll be happy enough if I can get at least $1000 out of it, but it will be coming with fresh oil/brake fluid/valve adjustment/tires/paint job, so it should be ready to go.

Suggested retail price I've seen is $5500... although I've seen it as low as $4000 (plus all the taxes and PDI).

I think your best bet is used (at least by a few years)... figuring most new bikes loose 15% of their retail value as soon as they are driven off the lot.

Right, mileage credit, and to a beginer - gs is a beginer bike, the fact that its not got 1 foot in the grave = very big deal.
I used to have clowns say its book value is 700 or 800 or what not when I would be selling say a 96 with 6K on it. I would promptly return with, oh, how many miles does it say it is per year. They usually mumble something. 5K or 3K or what ever. I'd go like 12-13 years, 5K/yr is like 60K. Man no problem, I got a nice GS with that many miles on it and you can have it for the book price. I sold 5 of them before I only had the 48K miler and finally I sold it for 675.
Cool.

The old impenetrable stealth field trick - works everytime.

Gosh; wish I would have done more research before plopping down 7k for my 09'ner.
love the bike to death; but looking at what they are going for today, really turns my
stomach. The only thing that  somewhat calms me is, I don't plan to get rid of her.
Looking to learning how to do maintenance and modification.

thanks for the link

At least you didn't spend $25K on a bike that costs $1000 a month to finance and operate. *teeth*
