Title: Clutch-in, revs rise
Post by: Adam R on November 07, 2003, 05:42:26 PM
When I pull in the clutch (when stopped at a light) the bike's rpms rise up to around 4000.  The idle adjuster doesn't really help bring them down.  When I put the bike in neutral same thing happens.  When bike is in gear and clutch out (i.e. coming up to a light), bike idles normally.

- I don't think clutch cable is stuck or inhibited.
- I'm running 40 pilots, 3.5 turns out (Never happened when I had 3 turns out) ... but, now there is less backfiring with V&H
- This happened during the second part of the ride, after the motor had warmed up.

Any ideas as to what could be the issue here?

Idle mixture is either too rich (at 3 1/2 turns, it will be too rich), or too lean. Adjust by turning the screws in until max idle rpm, back out 1/4 turn. Re-adjust idle speed. Repeat for the other side.

Or the carbs need balancing. Or a vacuum leak.

i would look for vacume leaks first

Could it be the choke.  Try adjusting it.
