So I decided to take the GS for a spin to soak up of Australia's snow fields in summer... A good excuse for the mrs to take her new (to her) sv650 for a whirl and her old boy to take his new (to him) 87? fzr750.
About 1500kms in a leisurely 5 nights. Perfect weather and great roads.
For those playing at home: Left Wollongong through the southern highlands to Canberra to pick up the old boy, Canberra, Cooma Jindabyne, Charlottes pass, Thredbo, Tom Groggin, Geehi, Khancobin, Jindabyne, Cooma, Bega, Tathra, Bermagui, Wollongong.
The gs did great. Didn't use a drop of oil. Spanked the sv in the twisties and caught the fzr coming down charlotte pass. 40 k stretch of big open sweepers with new road, 75km/h recommended speed, left then right for what seemed like forever hot on the back of a 750 with an experienced rider in front. Sticking behind him at 150km/h, I have to admit the gs felt a little wallowie in the stock front end when lent over. New sonic springs on order.
This little gs of ours is such a great bike (my first, 17000kms ago). Petrol consumption did not change from highway cruising to WOT three-quarter-litre chasing. Sat fine, mile after mile of twisties and highway. Good food, good bikes, good company, great roads... Highly recommend if any of you aussies are down that way.

Wow, that trip looked like a blast, glad to hear that everything went smoothly and you and the GS got some bonding time! You won't be disappointed with the sonic springs, I just installed them last weekend and still have a huge smile on my face from the first ride.

It doesn't matter how much time passes and how many other bikes I see, those original sv650s with the quarter fairing are such good looking bikes. If I lived far enough from where I work to need an actual commuting bike I'd love to have one of those. A new rear shock and a GSXR fork swap and I'd keep that thing forever.
The ride looks great. I usually just do 3-4 hour loops when I ride, but I think this summer I'm gonna try to ride to some destinations. I'd love to ride a few hours, hang out at a beach like that one(ok, not just like that one, the sand would be dirtier and have weeds, the water would be muddy instead of blue, but I live in Pittsburgh so I take what I can get) and just lay on the beach for a few hours, then ride home.
ROOS!!!! I've found, as I get near them I sunndely come OFF the thottle. The sudden Deeper rumble makes them turn Away from the road.
Ah, you've got the Curvey SV650s. Personally, I like the more upright position of the naked Sv650. Each to their own. As long as you're riding.
Are you going to start a separate blog for your Tassie Tour?

Tassie tour has been postponed. My dad passed away in nov and the tour fund got swallowed up by funeral expenses and uni text books.

Ended up using 15 weight, it's working out nicely.
Great photos Clancy! Brings back a few memories of when I lived in Canberra, used to go down that way regularly on my 900GTS Ducati, with mates from CDDC. There's some great rides around Corryong, Tumut, Batlow if you extend a bit further west. I should go and visit my Mum in Canberra, I usually fly but..........

Well gsf500RR, if i did (and i didn't *wink* because in oz it wouldn't be legal as it above the power to weight ratio for my provisional license) it would have been big heavy, hard to turn and bloody fast!!!!!!
Yeah Mister, the roos were plentiful, friendly and strangely attracted to motorcycle exhaust. oh and its my gals SV, dunno if i like the new ones as much but they are growing in me...
