I found 2 bikes on craigslist that im looking at and liking. Im hopefully selling my GS this week.
one is a 1996 cbr600 f3. never laid down, looks really nice fully fairings and all.
the other is a 2003 sv1000. 15k miles. half fairing. also looks nice.
Im calling the insurance tommarow for a quote on each of them

what do you guys think. (im pretty sure 96 percent will say sv but figured id ask anyway.) cause i do like hondas but dont know much specifically about either bike.
I have a friend with an sv1000, its a bit newer, but still, amazing bike. great power, great sound, great looks and comfortable.
I'd go the SV if i had to choose, but i'd probably be replacing the exhaust with a two brothers exhaust :thumb:
Both very nice looking bikes. :thumb: You gonna test ride them both before you buy?
That's a tough one. It would be tougher if it was a naked SV, as I've never really liked the half fairing on the newer bikes. I'd say you're getting a better total package on the F3, but you're getting something newer with the SV. SV is fuel injected, and that's an awesome motor, but the suspension on the F3 should be a bit better.
Can you tell us what characteristics you like in a bike? I think for me it would come down to the condition of the bikes. Unfortuntely I'm at work and can't check out the listings for details. The F3 sounds more fun for serious riding, the SV sounds more fun for cruising around, if that helps.
Depends on what you are going to use it for.
I'd be interested in the difference between insurance quotes.
600cc sportbike vs 1000cc sport touring.
I dont like the double exhaust on the SV personally. If the F3 is well taken care of i would lean that way, they are slick little sport bikes.
sv1K is waaaaaay better. That bike isn't an sv650 with a larger bore, literally every part of it was upgraded over the sv650.
Cool.

That's true, they've got the motors in them from the TLS, which was a fantastic motor. As nice as that bike might be for having the TLS motor in it, I would hands down buy a TL1000s over an SV1000 anyday.

Oh yea TL way better motor, sv got better frame, but TL suspension is better, esp the front. However IMHO, the SV looks 1000 times better.
Both the TL-S and TL-R look bad IMHO, with the R being very very dated looking IMHO.

For a next step from the Gs- the F3 would probably be the more sensible choice ( almost identical seat height and wheelbase ). "Point and click handling" comes to mind - I went from a GS to an F2... Huge jump in Power over the Gs too. The F3 had slightly better suspension than the F2 and I think they changed the carb set up a little.
Personal choice for me- I'd grab an SV --- I love twins and the SV1000 fits me pretty well ( I'm a big guy ).
Of the two examples in the adds I like the Honda better (looks wise). The SV (1000s) looks better with the upper fairing to me....or maybe it's the dual headlights and screen look to small on it.
Personally, I would choose the SV, because of its age. They are both nice bikes. Not likely you will "outgrow" either any time soon.. I also would choose the SV because I prefer a naked bike..
The CBR ad is a little fishy....
1996 CBR 600 F3 = Best bike I ever owned! Decent power, excellent handling and surprisingly comfortable for a sport bike. Bear in mind that I owned that bike in the 90's, don't know how good it would feel after 15 years of wear and tear...

After being at home and getting to look at the bikes, I think I'd definitely go for the SV. Like I said I'm not crazy about the quarter fairings, but since that SV is naked it looks pretty good. I assumed they were the same price too, but that's a great bike for $2k. You'll spend $300 on a chain and cogs, but still pretty decent. Just ask him to pull off that flyscreen so you can make sure his wiring isn't a nightmare under there, haha. The F3 definitely looks great too though.
well I talked to the insurance today and he said he couldnt get an exact quote without having the VIN, but the cbr would be really close to what im paying now which is 390 a year for full coverage, and the sv would be within about 100 of the cbr since its newer
$390 is a good deal for full coverage on a cbr. Did you try checking some websites? I always just fill in the stuff online on geicos website and it's always the same thing when I actually buy it. I usually just get liability though, so everything is about $100.
Well, I wouldn't take either one. I prefer a harley. I want the biggest, loudest with he most chrome I can find. I will also need a pee pee implant ;)
Hey everyone. I's been 2 or three years.
I voted for SV just because of it's age. I absolutely have no experience with either one.
