Well, I pulled the cluthc side engine cover off and found that the balance shaft on this side is loose. The bolt moves all over the place. UGH. So i'm guessing I have worn bearings or something???
i've looked the engine over and I'm assuming that my bes bet would be to hunt down another motor right? Seems like the easiest route to go - opening the engine and replacing the shaft is either gonna be too much trouble for me or too much money for a shop to do...
Anyone know where to locate a running GS motor??? I'll even trade for a parts motor....

When you say the bolt moves all over, do you mean the bolt is loose or is the whole shaft loose in the crankcase? The balance shaft drive gear is on the right side of the shaft & there is a bolt that holds it on, but there is a key in the shaft & gear, so if the key is still alright maybe you could just need to tighten the bolt? OTOH, if the shaft is loose in the crankcase, it means the bearing (at least) is FUBAR'd & you're gonna need some major engine surgery...
What made you pull that cover off to look inside anyway? Nasty noises?
