ive got a bent right handlebar at home and was wondering if anyone could measure the diameter of the 89 clipons and how far from the inside end the bolt recess is
im up at school for at least the next couple weeks and thought that i might as well make my own while i have access to the shop and materials
7/8th inch, and 1/2 inch pipe is close but not close enough. You need 7/8th tubing, or .880 inch OD tubing. 1/2 inch pipe is .85 OD not enough for a tight fit.
The milled slot is best done by hand with the other one as a pattern. In fact if you have the access to tools, make 2 one for each side, the milled slot could be 1.5 inches from the end, make the bar ~12 inch long and that would let you run fatter grips and not have the brake banjo hit the guage cluster.
Oh, drilling the end ~1 inch to ~ 3/4 inch ID would let you run press on weights. All numbers are approximate.

i dont have access to one to use as a template, ill just pop some tube on the mill and make two of them i guess
You don't need the bolt for the bar ends. You can put bar ends on using the rubber bushing that the newer bars use.
If you want to put in a nut in there for the bar end screw, 1/4 to 1/2" in from the end is fine.
Retail price for a bar is about $45. You can probably find one for less or get a used one. There are a couple different lengths so be sure you get the right length. But I think the different lengths were just in Europe. Never hurts to be sure as you don't know where a used bar is from. Most are 10" and some European ones are 10.5". I measured my parts bin and have one bar that is 10.5".
