Title: well.. not sure of a good way to put this
Post by: GS500Fmode on March 02, 2011, 09:31:00 PM
as the title says. i may be laying my GS aside for the next little while. ive come upon an incredible deal..so incredible i would be stooooopid to not take it. ive found a new bike. but before ANYONE goes HAM let me say that i am adding to my collection, there will be no sacrificing. now with that being said. the bike up for grabs is a 97 ninja ZX6-R. the motor was professionally rebuilt by a bike shop less than 5k ago. the only thing it needs is a better paint job. (the paint is fine, its just not my taste). deeep deep blue, with big metallic blue flake  :cookoo: &  :technical: lol

i took it for a nice ride today, and boy. let me tell you, that thing is a slice of awesome. (i know its not very new, but it has a perfect mix of this/n/that

like comparing a mclaren F1 to a Bugatti Veyron: the Mclaren is more mechanical, and less technical

the gs has always seemed lacking in just about every area, except the MPG. for where i live and ride on a day to day basis a sportbike will be perfect.

PS NO HATIN on me.  :flipoff:

Sounds good to me! I love the 1996-97 version. I think it looks much better than the 98-02 6Rs.

I can also appreciate a multi-bike garage. No need to get rid of an old bike if you can afford both. Lets you decide what kind of mood you're in that day. Any pictures??

i have pics on my other phone, but i just had to get another one (bday FTW!) its not the prettiest color... more like hideous up close. deeep dark blue (pics it looks black) but what ruins it is the large blue metallic flake in the paint (think bass boat paint lol) even if i had pics im not sure how to upload em.. never had good luck with that on ANY forum!

The picture has to be loaded online already, then you just copy the pictures address out of the address bar(or right click, go to properties, and copy the address there, as long as it ends in .jpg you should be fine). Then up above under the button with the "I" for italics there's a button with what looks like a picture frame. Click the picture frame button and paste your picture address between the 2 symbol clumps that it puts in the box.

if you're not sure what I'm talking about, hit 'quote' like you're going to reply to something I'm saying, and when everything comes up in text you can see what I did to this address: http://image.motorcyclistonline.com/f/8844535+w750+st0/122_9705_04z+1997_kawasaki_zx_6r+side_view.jpg

to make it show up as this picture:

Nice bike. I know it's a silly question but how is it next to the gs500?

That bike I think is loads better. Sure it's a touch heavier. But as far as I can tell it handles just as well. And is way more comfortable

Did I say it actually had power? :)

Shame it's got the metallic flake, otherwise the paint job would look fine. It looks pretty good in the picture. I've always liked those fairing braces on the older bikes.

Now my question is. What should I do for paint. ? I was thinking a simple matte/flat back.. Then the polished frame would POP! lol.
Open to suggestions.

Matte if it's good quality, otherwise I would stick with something glossy. Browse around bikepics.com and see what other colors the bike looks good in.

you know whats funny about that.. the only reason i ever wanted a kawa (when i was riding dirtbikes) was because of the COLOR

When I was younger I was absolutely in love with the red/purple color schemes Kawasaki used to use in the early/mid 90s. I'm not sure why anymore  :dunno_black: haha

I guess I have always been a blue fan. Blue and silver IMHO makes for a knockout combo. I also like that off white, like ivory with shimmer like they put on cadillacs the mid-late 90's and on.
Now the bass boat look, sadly I have done that too, and I must say in the 2 bikes I did it to, one looks fantastic, the other looks pitiful. But I blame my color choice there, or lack there of. I did black with gold, and most of the time it looks like its got fine pollen dust on it. The other was a silver with shiny flecks under candy blue. Looked awesome. I did the GR frame in silver with that same flecks and the guy put smaller flecks in it cos it was just 1 layer, not 2 and it looks fantastic. But the bigger flecks are what make a bass boat IMHO. Tiny near invisible looks shimmery from far and only very close you see the flecks.

Cool.

yeah these flakes are quite large. (some may be about 1/4 in diameter) now the metallic in my 05 GSf (black and red scheme: Factory) looks HAWT

what's the point of the bird cage thing?
Title: Re: well.. not sure of a good way to put this

Old fairing mount brackets weren't as stiff/strong as they are today. Those brackets used to support the fairing once bikes got up to speed. Newer fairings are also a lot more aerodynamic so they cut through the wind better. The front of a 900rr or an srad gsxr was a lot bigger and broader than something like a 600rr, so they took a lot more abuse from the wind anyway.

Rio has a birdcage, I have people ask me all the time what's it for. Its one of my favorite features on a bike.

yeah and that bird cage thing isnt terribly cheap. considering its like 3 small tubes of aluminum.

that and a mirror are all i need.

random question>> anyone know about how long the owner should have to wait for the title to come back? he sent it off on Feb 18th.. (long story short his buddy said it would be a GREAT beginner bike lol) and as such, he has only driven it 30.4 miles since Feb. (i added some stabil while i was there lol)

i want to ride it NOWW

They told me 4 to 6 weeks for the title when I registered here in Kansas (DMV mails you a new title).  So he could still be waiting.

I also don't recall needing the registration changed over to get insurance, just a valid VIN number and address for the paperwork to be sent to me.  If that's what you're worried about, just get it insured so you are legal and ride while you're waiting for the title BS to clear up.

I have geico and after I buy a policy I can just go into my account online and print out my cards, no need to even have them faxed.... and yes, you don't have to have a vehicle registered to your name to insure it. Insurance companies will pretty much let you insure anything. If I had your VIN number I could probably get insurance on your bike haha.
