Title: Where to take old battery?
Post by: Pelikan on March 08, 2011, 02:21:28 PM
I just picked up a Scorpion sealed, which is getting installed once the bike returns from the shop.  I'm wondering what to do with the old battery.  Are there places that accept them for recycling?  Is there anyone in LA that wants a still-working Yuasa?

I think almost any place that sells automotive/boat/cycle batteries will take it.  I've even gotten $5 for them sometimes. Try your nearest auto parts store.

You're in LA? Can't you just drop it off next to a stripped car or toss it out in a less than desirable neighborhood? (Its OK, I used to live there to 15 years. No loss of love for that city but I remember a bike shop in Long Beach that had a huge theater pipe organ in it! Was it Koons Cycle Shop?)

Just take it back to where you bought your new one. Even anywhere like Pepboys will take one. I usually tell them I just bought a new one from them, but I'm not sure if it really matters.

I dropped my old battery at the local NAPA auto parts store. The lady behind the counter thanked me for not dumping it in the garbage.

check craigslist.... people buy batteries for the lead 5 bucks or so  or offer it to a twinner to keep their bike going
