I just got a scorpion battery yesterday. Waiting for my bike to get out of the shop, so figured I'd throw it on the float charger I got for my old battery in the mean time. Took it off just now, at the 24 hour point, and noticed that the Scorpion is an AGM battery (didn't think it was). I know this charger states not to use it with that type battery, but I don't know exactly why? Do you think I screwed up the batt?
24 hours is probably fine. I think you want to avoid putting a non-AGM charger on it all winter, thats all.
If the bike's charging system can charge it fine, your old trickle charger will be fine too.
Hmmm, I put mine on the same type of charger for six hours and it is OK. 24 hours is probably OK... :dunno_black:
According to literature, charging voltage for the Scorpion is 14v and change. Maximum output of the float charger is 13v and change. So I imagine any damage done would be to the float charger. Given that they're designed to run 24/7 for an entire season, I think the warning is more geared toward frying the charger, rather than doing any damage to the battery (correct me if I'm wrong, though).
No, you could leave it on indefinitely and it wouldn't damage the charger.
