Title: Changing Rear Sprocket and Chain, Front Sprocket Too?
Post by: Pelikan on March 09, 2011, 02:15:40 PM
Took the bike in and am having them replace the rear sprocket with 41T for a bit more pep off the line.  They also recommended replacing the chain, which I'm doing.  They didn't mention anything about the front sprocket, and I didn't think to ask at the time, but I noticed on here a few people saying replace both sprockets and chain at the same time, or you'll experience premature wear.

The shop I took it to is really very good, and I'm sure if the wear was a legitimate concern the mechanic would've mentioned it, but am curious to get your thoughts.

Yes, replace the entire set. Your mechanic probably just forgot to mention it.

Just talked to the mechanic, he said the front sprocket is fine, and won't cause any premature wear.  I'll take his advice/opinion.
