Title: Year to year differences? Or is my bike missing parts?
Post by: Garrett on March 16, 2011, 06:17:44 AM
I have an 89 and I just came accross this pic of a 90

And mine looks like this

Am I supposed to have the headlight cowl and "chin" fairing? If so, where do I get them? They look neat.

Thanks!

The small fairings were extra cost options from Suzuki and not standard for any year GS.  No longer available from Suzuki but there are aftermarket ones availavle.

They are original Suzuki parts you see. Same parts work on 1989-2000 and no longer available, though they do show up here or on ebay from time to time. There is one original headlight cowling on ebay right now for over $125.
Somehow I have acquired 4 chin fairings and 3 headlight cowlings (the originals).
I also have some after market ones I had been trying to sell but couldn't get anyone interested. One person said he was going to pay "on friday when I get paid" but never heard back from him.
Later I'll re-post what I want to sell off.

This is "Junior" with both. I'll replace the chin with a solid black one or one I'll paint the same candy red, as soon as there is a nice weekend to do it (the stripes do not go with this color scheme):

There was a full fairing available, but I don't think sold in the US. Mine, new still in the box, not put on a bike yet. Found it in a shop in the UK and had it shipped to the US:

Some other bike to show what it would look like (though all red, not red & black)

There is a company in the UK that makes headlight cowlings and full fairings for the GS500E. Their headlight cowling looks very close to the factory original.

Well, maybe. But we don't know where you're located (no location in your profile).
You might think about matching your wheels. I switched Trey to silver from white. I have a few extra white rear rims and you can probably find a silver front on ebay if you want to go that way. I found the silver looks better as it matches the silver frame.

I'm in the USA, MA to be exact.
My wheels are both white, rear one is very dirty though and I used a digital camera from like 1999.

Is that the proper one for my '89?

Thanks.

Why buy one that's broken? It needs repairing and the windshield is broken.
Others do show up.
I've got a couple to sell. Tried before but either no one interested or those that were flaked out so I stopped selling (waste of time to bother with them.)
You can look them up various places. I have Gimbel headlight cowling and belly pan for GS500E and another brand that shows up on ebay (I don't see them there right now).
Keep watching ebay and you'll find ones that aren't broken.
