Title: Oil Leak
Post by: ver4 on March 18, 2011, 09:12:23 PM
My bike has had a slow oil leak since the engine has been rebuilt.  It looks as if the oil is dripping from out of either the generator cover or one of the bolts in the crankcase.  I've looked at diagrams and I just have no clue where it could be coming from.  There's a possibility that the leak is coming from #10 in the diagram.  Is there a gasket other than the crankcase gasket that I may be missing?

Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know about the GS, but GR650's and the gs450's have an oil seal in the center of the signal generator that is easy to mangle.......

#9 is a plug the covers the main oil gallery and #10 is a crush washer. When the plug is removed it gives access to the main oil gallery so that oil pressure readings can be taken. There is a lot of oil pressure behind the plug and if its not tight or if the crush washer is damaged or missing you will see a leak. I would check this out before anything else.

If there is oil in the sig-gen housing suspect the oil seal or a loose/damaged oil pressure switch.

Fixed.  Still not 100% sure of the cause.  BaltimoreGS let me have a crankcase cover off of a junk bike, so I replaced mine with his.  Seems to have done the job.

Thank you, Jessie.
