Okay I have a small problem and it is in my gas tank, my 3 yr old(bless his heart) has taken a hotwheels car and put it into my gas tank. I am trying to figure out a way to get the damn thing out and since you really can't see that well in the tank it is kinda hard to tell where it is. Any suggestions after finish laughing your asses off? :nana: I am wanting to finish cleaning the outside of the tank and I am worried about damaging the inside of the tank with this car rattling around. Thanks for any suggestions. :thumb:
Fish it out with a coathanger? Tie/tape a magnet to a stick of some sort?

yeah, one of those mechanics magnet stick things that extend should
do the trick.
another vote magnet
if that fails take the tank off
Those telescoping magnets are pretty cool, but every time I try to use mine it gets stuck on every piece of metal on the way down to what I want to retrieve and I can't get what I want. I'd just pull the tank and flip it.
BTW, thanks for the laugh! ;)
Since the tank has the filler neck at the top, flipping it may not get the car out. Go to a hardware store (Sears, Home Depot, etc) and get one of those little claw retriever things. Spring loaded and about 2-3 feet long. You push the button on one ned and little metal fingers come out and grab dropped parts. It should be perfect for grabbing a Hot Wheels car.
use a flashlight, you can see just about everywhere inside, magnet works, though the gas may eat the wheels off of it, um, question, glad he wasnt hurt, but, myson being 4 loves riding on daddys motorcycles, loves to help daddy clean and work on bike, but, (not trying to start anything, just askin) what was the gascap doing open and your son near the bike while open. I remember my dads goldwing falling over cuz i climbed on it, and my son did the same thing once when i wasnt lookin, since then, he doesnt go near the motorcycles/tools/anything remotely dangerous without me watching and saying ok, secondly, i have become a wiz at repairing VCR's,TV's, And some DVD players. did you know 4 DVD's can fit into the DVD drive before it wont open anymore? I also found out, VCR's store wayward DVD's while PLAYING VCR tapes, who'd athunk it... and i did NOT know how corrosive jellybeans are to TV circut boards (TV/VCR combo) or that 5 GI.joe's can live in 13" TV/VCR combo unit before needing medical extraction. so, long since figured that if there is a place to put something, my son would find something to put in it.
please, be carefull . goodluck
Yeah I figured alot of ppl here would get a laugh on my account for this one, I do have the tank off and since there is the filler neck I could not get the car out. I have also tried one of the magnetic sticks to try to get it out, but all I get right now is rust. So I think next week I will have to get one of the claw deals and try it. Thanks for all the tips. I think I am going to take a pic of the car when I get it and use it for my avatar.
Hey Blueknyt.
I am Moose Boy's significant other, what he failed to post was the gas tank has has been taking up space in my living room for awhile now, seperate from the bike and free of gasoline. He was so proud when he *FINALLY* got the gas cap off of it and it stripped for the most part of it, I think the look of pride was identical in our 3 year olds face when he created a really big rattle out of dad's gastank. I was unaware of exactly how many items could fit in both vcr's and dvd players. I can tell you from my experience that 3 action figures can fit past the wax ring of a toilet and but only one cat will fit in the fridege with mommy's Dr Pepper supply. That shaved a few years offf my life. Anyway, have a good one...

How about some chewing gum or a dab of silicone on the end of a dowel?
Maybe a 3-hook fish hook tied to the end of several twist ties to make the proper lenth "line"...hook the toy and reel it up. Worth a try.
I say leave it in there and see if you get a performance boost. Then we can all add it to our list of mods.
Shake it, shake it like a poloriod.
