Got my 93 GS out of winter storage and it started up quite nicely. To start it, I set the fuel selector switch on "Prime".
Can anyone guess what happened next...?
Yep. Let it sit for a week on "Prime". It got cold again here in Iowa. And what I thought was a renewed oil leak from some unidentified lower gasket turned out to be about 1/2 oil and 1/2 gas.
But when I started it up for the day before yesterday, I didn't know that. Fuel/oil came bubbling out of the upper rear left crankcase gasket. Very scary.
So, I did some Googling and found the problem. Went to the local motorcycle shop and bought a filter, o-ring and 3 quarts of oil
Draining the pan was worthy of an environmental impact statement. Fuel/oil cam pouring out. It poured... and poured... and poured. Overflowed my collection pan and all over my garage floor.
Stopped eventually. Changed the filter - when I took the filter cover off another 1/2 cup of oil/fuel spewed out. Put the drain plug back in. Put in 3 quarts of oil and...
It started up in a second. What a great design.
Going to be 64 degrees F. on Saturday. I'm going to get to go for a ride. Whoo-hoo!
you're lucky...that could have ended in a seized engine... :icon_eek:
Later.
I think you are the 100th person to officially do this. Grats :thumb:
Should only happen if your float/valve seat o`ring is messed up,worth looking into.(perhaps not if left on sidestand)
Yeah... it was on the sidestand.
