I've searched through the forum, there is some great stuff here but I'm still after a little bit of help. I got my hands on a 08 GS500 with a spun bearing so planned to swap the motor out. I also got a 07 engine from a 'F' so has a oil cooler. The frame of the 08 model is missing some of the mounting holes for the oil cooler so I was planning to remove it by replacing the pan from the other one and removing the restrictor (I got info regarding the restrictor from some earlier posts). I've done that, removed the restrictor at the back of the oil filter but the oil light still comes on. I've swapped out and tested the sensor, seems fine. In desperation i give it a few revs, 4k or so, the light turns off. Any idea's.

wouldn't it have been easier to fab 2 brackets for an oil cooler onto the other frame?
You don't want to run a motor with low pressure. At all.
Me, I'd want to keep the oil cooler. +1 to werase643. It's a steel frame and Riv Nuts are cheap.
+1. Heck, zip-tieing it to the frame would be a better option. Esp. since it sound like your setup has low oil pressure now, based on what your sensor is doing.
yeh, you are all right, i don't want to run the motor with low oil pressure. I have one slight problem, the oil cooler itself is trashed.. I would need to get a replacement so I would prefer to save my penny's as I don't have many and try to work out how to do the conversion.
Couldn't you run the output to the oil cooler (from the engine) back to the input from the oil cooler (minus the oil cooler) so the oil flow would be the same?
I've been considering this option and will go for it if I cannot work out what the difference is between the 2 engines. Surely there isn't too much different between them.
a small auto transmission cooler from a local auto junk yard will work for 5-10 bucks
dude put the oil cooler on, its better for the bike and like he said, not very expensive. 10 fabricate some stuff and bolt it up
so, i've put the original pan back on and sorted out an oil cooler, made sure its all good to go. cranked it over and guess what, still low oil pressure light...
i've pulled the cover off the top and there is a little oil there but after removing the spark plugs and turning it over there is not really anything been pumped up there... not anything like there should be
I removed the oil filter too and cranked it over only a small stream of oil is been pumped out of there too...
So what next? looking at the parts list @ http://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gs500-f-2004-2006-usa_model16027/partslist/300543.html it looks like there is a "REGULATOR, ENGINE OIL" & "PUMP ASSY, ENGINE OIL", any idea how to remove and clean/check these to see if there are any blockages?
