Hey all! Just wanted to say hello. I sold my 02 ural with sidecar, and picked up a new 08 gs500 for a good deal since Suzuki was giving a grand off! :woohoo:
She has the black/silver paint, and I really like her. It took a little getting used to, but I am very happy with the feel, and ride. WAY different than a sidecar rig!!
I miss the storage I had with the Ural, but I have ordered a tail bag, and Tank bag to hold my gear. I am looking forward to a great summer riding the bejeebers out of her. :icon_mrgreen: :D  :)
Dave, the old fart :dunno_black:
Welcome! Those Urals are pretty neat bikes. The local BMW dealer here just started carrying them.
Wow! That really would be a different ride! Congratulations!
I got the same great deal with my 08 blu/wht GS500F. Haven't quite got 100 mi on, yet. My old 1700 Roadstar Touring was, totally, different too. I had to get used to the different riding style and add Nelson Riggs sport touring saddle bags for stuff. They even have water bottle holders on the outside. :thumb:
The 70 mpg, now that's real easy to get used to. :woohoo:
Welcome to GStwins! Post some pics of your new bike up when you get the chance so we can all have a look. :thumb:
I live on a cul de sac of bike enthusiast with one sidecar. Its an airhead beamer with AFAIK a ural hack. What made you wanna change to two wheels?
Phuck the GS...tell me about your old bike!

Well, at best the ural only got 25 mpg, and was not nearly fast enough to ride on the interstate. I really liked the sidecar, and everywhere I went I got asked a million questions. I just wanted something a little faster, and not quite in the technological dark ages. My son just got a great deal on a v-strom, and I wanted something that could keep up with him when we go riding. No doubt the Ural is way cool, just wanted something different, and I couldn't have 2 bikes. (I have the warden to answer to.) :embarrassed:
Dave....the old fart :tongue2:
Thanx for the answer :thumb:
My buddy has a Ural...cool bike. We went riding a few weeks ago, him on the Ural, his wife in the side car, me on the GS and another buddy on his Honda Shadow. We made one hell of a motley crew riding down the road!!
Gawd help me, I'm a bad boy and having an Australian fantasy...hit the States on a budget ticket ....and buy one of these new/old stock GS's...have a couple of months touring around camping on the cheap and eating burgers and big steaks and drinking Millers and all that and all on $1.03ish to the Aussie greenback....then grab the Walmart spanners/wrenchs.. pull out the motor and the tank and the electrics and the chain and the calipers and whatever else ya fancy .....stuff it all into a budget FedEx box back to Oz....find a dumspter for the frame and wheels to live......grab the plane home...kiss the ground.....wait for the box..Bob's yer Uncle.. how could ya loose???? (even better, Summer is comin there and Winters comin 'ere.)
And, hey, enjoy the new bike, bit different from that Ural. Used to be able to buy them on and off down here..don't know whether anyone is dealing in them these days...did yrs have that reverse gear thing???....awesome!
Yeah! I got lotsa strange looks when I put it in reverse, and backed out of a parking space! :o
Mmmmmm....looks like Urals are back on the market here in Oz at $15,000+ new......see

Talking about bike, we're getting a new littl Suzuki here this month. The TU250X (sounds like a Russina aircraft?). 250cc fuel injected single with retro styling, retailing around the $6.5k. Looks OKish but the exhaust pipe exiting the front left of the head and snaking around the front of the frame to marry up with the right hand muffler might be a bit problamatic in terms of looks. Haven't seen one in the flesh yet. Got a vague memory that this model might have been around before.

16hp on the TU250 leaves a little to be desired. Looks retro though and is probably bettr than a moped.
Blimey, is that all it puts out???? Might have to fit a set of pedals as well.

That would be the same bike as the ST250, and actually makes 19 HP. The exhaust pipe doesn't look bad at all.
