OK I've heard that some of you all have replaced your air filter with a (LUNCH BOX) air cleaner K&N style.
This is a real noob question but what's a lunch box air cleaner box???
Is this a repllacement for the stock one, what does it look like/part numbers??
Other ppl have said to take the entire setup off and put the seperate round ones on.
What say you all, please give me the lowdown :whisper:
Here you go!

I recently installed the lunchbox but I also have a performance exhaust and I did a rejet.
Does the lunchbox and rejet (but not exhaust) give better performance?
Does anyone have any problems with water using the lunchbox?

The exhaust is the biggest bottle neck on the GS, modifying the intake without changing the exhaust will not make a huge difference. That being said, the bikes are jetted lean from the factory.

I have ridden mine in the pouring rain and checked the K&N straight after - no water at all!

Never
Thank you! I was wondering... Maybe I should have asked with the previous question, but what about the support for the rear of the carbs? I mean, with the lunchbox on there, that would put more strain on the intake boots, eh? Anyone had any problems?
I think I'll have to get a lunchbox and pick up a Jardine full system and fatten up the jetting a bit. Yosh would be nice, but it seems you can't get a full system anymore unless you happen to stumble across one. I appreciate the input!
No problems for me, in 18,000 miles. :thumb:
I've lost the restricting ring to my K&N, anyone happen to have one just layin' around, longing for a home?

That's not what Dave Johnson says in the "Racer's Corner". He says the two-valve cylinder heads are the biggest impediment to engine breathing. If the exhaust was the bottleneck we'd all get substantial performance gains by changing our pipes, and as we all know that's not the case.
I wonder if anyone has tried taking the two center cylinders off of the head of a larger four-valve four cylinder? You know, cut the end cylinders off : )

Ha ha ... I've been hit with that issue. However I have run GS'es with K&N's for 15 years. I also have worked on several bikes in my hood that have them ... and till last year I never had a K&N related carburetor ejection. However it can happen and I believe it requires a unique combination (which is likely to happen more and more in the future) ... OK the store is this.
The Post 01 carbs had a slightly different profile where they mate to the manifold.
The rubber mainfolds off the 01+ hence dont fit the 89-00 carbs perfectly.
Suzuki superceded the mainfold part number from the 89-00 to the one from 01+, as in you cannot buy the old manifold anymore.
So if you fit a 01+ mainfold on the older bike and put K&N on, you could have a carburetor ejection.
Simple solution ... put a big plastic box or something behind the filter to keep it from moving back/down.
Cool.
Buddha.
Good info on the Cedric mods! Thanks! I doubt I'll fork out 5 grand or more to do all that, but it's fun to read about. I had read the cranks are kinda weak and getting a custom billet would be some $$$! Sure would be fun, though ~
