I broke off the nub on my switchgear (throttle side) and the throttle tube is cracked (but useable). Does anybody have any suggestions for a cheap (but elegant??) solution? I was thinking to drill out the point where the nub was, and to use a steel pin or something to stop the assembly from rotating around.... otherwise i was thinking to buy a cheap replacement off somebody here or on ebay... if i got a hold of another set of controls from another suz bike, would that work? or are these assemblies very bike specific (ie throttle cable etc...) i know i'd prolly have to rewire the kill switch and starter if it wasnt a direct swap, but I'm more concerned with mechanical function ( i can figure out the electrical part).
Did you try to see if the switchgear assembly would stay in place if you just tightened the screws on the assembly? Otherwise, take the assebly off and wrap electrical tape around the bar and try that. If the throttle tube is cracked but still servicable, a new handgrip will cover that up.
oh yeah i tried..... whole assembly still rotates, but within a certain (unacceptable) range... not like it makes complete revolutions or anything.... didnt try electrical tape though... maybe that'd be enough; or friction tape... and the cracked throttle tube has been covered up by my new grip 8) but i was still thinkin of just replacing the whole thing... but prolly too costly for what its worth. i'll try the tape thing...
Might be a good idea to have a spare ready. You have time, as the current one works, so you can hold out for a deal.
would anything work? ie for a gsxr? or is throttle cable thing specfic in any way to the GS? (mechanically, i mean, i'd figure out the wiring)
