I have a 92 GS500, and I've been having a ton of trouble with the carbs. No matter how much I've adjusted the float levels, it always just gets off again the next time I ride it and ends up flooding and then leaking out of the carbs because the level goes up too high. I have noticed that the spot where the two little knobs on the float fit into two little holes to let the floats pivot is expanded out, so that the floats slip out and I believe this is causing them to stick. I've tried to bend the part back into shape, but it hasn't worked.
My question is this: first off, does what I just said make any sense or did I explain that horribly? and second, could cause my float bowls to be super high and make the carbs leak gas all the time? has anyone had this happen before? and last question is will the floats off a new model carb fit my 92? there are new floats on ebay for cheap, but the only old ones I can find are new and are 44 each from bikebandit.
Just ready to get this thing fixed, haven't gotten to ride it much since I got it and its killing me.
Unless you are quite sure they are actually slipping out of place (ie, they are out of place when you disassemble) I'd first wonder if your float needles and/or seats are worn, since those would cause a leak even if the floats were in the proper place.

I am sure at least one is slipping out, since it was one of the knows was out when I disassembled it. The other one I'm basically positive is doing the same thing, since when I had the floats out I just couldn't get them to stay in the holes at all. I put new needles in both carbs already, so I know they're good. Basically no matter how far I bend the little metal tab that adjusts the float level, I always end up with high levels.
Does anyone know if the new model floats with the pin that holds him in place will fit the old model carbs (the plastic part that attaches the float to the carb)?
