Title: 1997 GS Motor Parts for sale
Post by: DWeisbach on April 26, 2011, 11:54:23 PM
So when I bought my non-running 1997 GS500e, and realized that the problem was engine mechanical, I took out and apart the motor.  I found a bad con-rod bearing was the source of the problem, and the crank, and one con-rod were damaged.  Anyhew, all other parts are for sale, and look good.  Complete head, block halves, balance shaft, pistons, valve cover, etc.

Email or call if you're interested in anything, and make an offer
Thanks
-Dave

So-called Goats' syndrome is common on these bikes... the magnets that are epoxied onto the rotor break off (epoxy degrades or cracks somehow with age) and the loose magnets do all kinds of hideous damage as they get pulvarized in there.

Goats is part of GSTwin folk lore. You cant be a hindu without knowing Ramayana, be christian with out knowing the bible, and GSTwinner wihtout knowing "goats".

The GSTwinner called "Goat" has disappeared, but his syndrome remains.

Starwalt's is a variation where a tiny chunk of the magnet breaks off and finds its way to the starter clutch and locks it up, that will now carry the starter with the motor ... as in, the starter spins @ 3000 rpm to get the motor spinning @ 300. Then then the motor starts running, the starter clutch will let it disengage normally, except if you got starwalts it wont, and a 1000 rpm motor will sping the starter @ 10,000 and that 10 X factor continues, @ 5K its tuning 50K rpm etc etc. That will shred the starter.

Then there is the buddha variation, where the starter makes a metallic clunk @ start up, and you ignore it. Till the vibrations shred the rotor and it then eats the stator.

Se7en7y had a bike that was dropped on the left side, bent the cover to the point where it contacted the rotor and smashed them both to pieces over a few 100 miles. The alternator cover was so slightly bent, it didn't leak oil, no symptom this was happening. He lost 2-3 stator+rotors before finding it.

Cool.
Buddha.

I do have a good looking stator rotor.  Would you like to email me an offer?  I'm not really sure what it's worth.

Thank you

So I still have a bin of full of remaining parts from a disassembled '97 motor that I need to get rid off... and I don't really want to sell it for $20 of scrap metal to get it out of the way.  Any interest?  Includes good block, gears, cams, and more.

I'm thinking $150 is fair for the whole thing...

Please come take a look and let me know what you think its worth.  Make me an offer.  Price is flexible.  I'm in the San Fernando Valley of the Los Angeles area.

Thanks all.
Ride Safely, and have fun.

Starter motor?
Signal generator?
Maybe the rotor for the signal generator, since it is going on a 2006 motor, and I think there is a difference.

Never mind -
signal generator is there and have leads for starter motor.

Sorry don't have extra carbs.  I'll check about the covers and respond soon.

I'm moving in a couple weeks so am looking to sell the whole bin of parts as a lot.

Price is very negotiable, and there are lots of usable parts.  I suppose a local would be ideal, as shipping would be pricey and they'd be able to search through the parts before buying.

...maybe $100?
