Title: Kat 600 shock, etc.
Post by: alyoopz on April 27, 2011, 03:40:45 PM
I've read just about every post regarding replacing the shock on my GS500F and I plan on going with the Katana 600 shock.  The one I have in mind is said to be for a 88-07 GSX 600 and looks pretty good to me.  AFIK, this is a bolt-on item.  If not, or if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations, I surely would appreciate it.

I'm also planning to go with the .95 springs for the forks using 15 weight oil.  I weighed 203 this morning and I figure around 210 in my normal riding gear.  I know there are topics on this, but I wanted to make sure that there isn't any special year model I need.   I also like to get the right part the first time.

Thanks, Y'all,
Al

The GS500 forks haven't changed significantly since the bike was originally built. Biggest change is that late model damper tubes no longer have a hex head to hold them from spinning during disassembily. This is only an issue though during a complete rebuild, or when installing emulators.

Short version; any spring should work.

And that particular shock should work as well, eh?

I don't have much experience with the Kat 600 shocks, unfortunately. I know that the 99 to 06 Kat 750 shocks will fit, with some clearance issues.

Thanks, B,

I have come to believe that the 600 shock will bolt right on without the clearance issues.  I suppose we'll see  :  )
