I'm a senior at Claremont McKenna College and I've about had it with with parking restrictions on campus. I can understand registration fees for cars, but not for bikes. Heck, I don't ever even take up a space!
For you other college students, how much a year, if anything, do you have to pay in order to park your GS on campus?
:x :x :x
Adam
$35/yr, and no problem parking what so ever.
at the Univeristy of South Florida.
I think it was 10 bux or so
its free for me if my car is registered! And since it snows down here, i need my car registered for both semesters.
Is College like University?
I am in University here in Australia, and its free to park at my current Uni, however, last year I was at a uni where parking was $120 a year, motorbike, car, submarine whatever!!!
Motorbikes should be given a special pass, we dont clog the roads, less polution, chicks love us - we spread good will wherever we go!!!
Stay Safe :thumb:
I go to Cal Poly SLO
it is like $10 a quarter
QuoteUniveristy of South Florida.
hey, you guys are movin' up to the BigEast!!! :thumb:
My alma-mater is moving out of the BigEast.... :(
Anyway, Penn State, parking blows because of one of the absolutely crazy construction around central campus... many parking lots have been cleared for building. It's only 40 bucks a semester, but students have to park on a remote part of campus about a mile away from the academic buildings.
At my alma mater (Virginia Tech), parking was sweet for bikes. spaces in lots of convenient places for motorcycles lableled "any university permit"
peace
I'm being charged $80 a year, same as if I had a car.
University of Nevada, Reno grad student. It costs $25 per year to park in marked motorcycle spaces only, and there aren't many of them.
CSU Sacramento - Bikes $26/sem / Cars $106/sem
Glendale Comm. College - free for bikes, cars 50 bucks / sem.
I can always park the bike for free and really close to my school. (about 20m from the entrance :P) Parking with a car sucks, you can park it for free but you have to walk at least 5 minutes.
I almost never have problems parking the bike anywhere. Just put it on the sidewalk or somewhere else where it's not in the way, and you won't get a ticket.
Cal State Northridge
$126/semester for cars
$32/semester for bikes
Car parking is extremely limited, but it's getting better now since they just built a new parking structure. Bike parking is plentiful.
U of Hawaii, Manoa
Bikes: Many spots around the campus. Cost $34/semester.
Cars: Pretty much central parking structure far from every thing. Cost: bend over. :nana:
Cheers,
e.
I'm at Sac State like The_good_guy, but don't drive to school. Live across the street :) so parking is FREE in my garage.
UNC is $138/year for bikes. And there is very limited parking too.
jeffd, i haven't seen a gs 500 @ usf yet. you said you are in engineering, too?
Yup, I park by the engineering trailers. (right next to the solar car chargers) How about you?
Drexel University, Philadelphia. They just erected a $14m statue of our mascot (Dragon) on campus. I parked my bike in front of it the other night and got a $15 ticket. :nana: I actually saved $20 because parking on the sidewalk is $35. :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana:
$1.50 a night if i can find a space.
University of Memphis. Free parking for cars in General Parking area. 20-75bucks for parking in gated lots. Free parking for bikes. Everybody just pulls right up to the buildings.
i'm still in a cage. i should have my gs on the road soon. i'll probably park there, too. see you around!
Don't ride my bike to campus, but here at Kent State you just need a special permit, then have fun finding a spot to park it.
At my apartment, the landlord is nice and she let's me park it in between my car and my girl's car. The spaces are wide and we own small cars so it works quite nicely. :)
When I attended Lakeland Community College, they had a special lot for motorcycles only, that fit about 10-15 bikes. Best part, it was VERY close to the main entrance. No walking half a mile through the parking lot!
University of North Texas... it costs $70 per year. The spaces are as close as you get and always available, which is a nice change from driving a car, because you can never find a spot. Thing is I don't know what they use the parking fee for they obviously don't patrol motorcycle parking, we had 4 bikes stolen this year in broad daylight.
I'm at San Jose State. I ride everyday otherwise I'll have to buy a $158/semester parking permit. On top of that, the parking sucks so bad that you probably won't get a spot if you arrive after 8:45
They have motorcycle spots around the campus against the sidewalk that don't cost anything :) ...at least to park it doesn't but my rain suit wasn't free ;)
Pitt Panther here (University of Pittsburgh)...$20 a semester to park on campus with minimal diffiuclty in finding a spot.
Pitt Panther here (University of Pittsburgh)...$20 a semester to park on campus with minimal diffiuclty in finding a spot.
Im a Junior at UW-Milwaukee. I think that I paid $35 for a year. This allows me to park in all the lots and ramps on campus, and I never have problems finding a space.
depaul univ. in chicago:
you can't even park your bike in the one garage.
but if you did, it would be hourly. best bet is squeezing between two cages and street parking and praying (it is a religous school 8) ) that no one knocks it over...
Carleton University, Ottawa Ontario. Mechanical Engineering. 2nd year.
I'm at Cal Poly, SLO. It's free with a car permit, but otherwise $45/yr.
Parking located centrally on campus.
I've never had trouble finding anything.
Hey VT.
I hear you with the lot 80 parking in SC, but you have a bunch of downtown spots to choose from. I think that I caught you on McAllister a while back. That's prime for the south side of campus.
I lived on S. Burrowes when I was at PSU so I hoofed it regardless of where my classes were.
Quote from: Rich500Carleton University, Ottawa Ontario. Mechanical Engineering. 2nd year.
I'm a 2nd year ME at Cal Poly
bbanjo... I stand corrected... I failed to mention the available parking downtown. I'm a McAllister Street regular, and its about a 5-10 minute walk in to the lab from there. And the bonus is that its right next to the Cheese Shoppe (best coffee in town by a longshot).
on campus, though... bend over :nana:
Worst part is that once upon a time you could park in faculty spots after 4pm or 5pm... now you can't even do that... restrictions are on until 9pm!!! There are even restrictions on student parking in certain parking garages on the freakin' weekends!!! :bs:
I am considering (well, pretty much made up my mind) to quit work and go back to skewl full time and be able to devote more time to the bodywork and other projects.
Man I just wish I had the time to go to school and support my familiy at the same time. Maybe someday.
I know how you feel. Its just right now the planets seem perfectly aligned for making this jump.
My job is a deadend and pointless, I hate the people I work with, the wife makes more $$$ than I do, no kids (yet), and the balance of my GI Bill money expires in 3 years (use it or lose it!).

I have a full time job + a part time job + part time night school to finish my BSME and some how still find time to play at the track.
....I just realized that we have the same bike in our avatars.
Hehehe, yeah I noticed that and thought it was pretty cool.

Jake - Univ. of Pittsburgh. Craig beat me to it on the motorcycle parking rates.
it's pretty cheap 20 bucks a semester for bikes. Plus the motorcycle parking is literally right outside my office door. riding my bike and parking saves me almost an hour a day in commute and parking time.
although it was 29 degrees this am so it was alittle rough.
better than 15-20 bucks a day to park in the garages around my building or the 85-150 a monthfor a parking permit at a univ. lot where you have to ride a freakin 20 minute shuttle to get to work.
Jake
ps-backyard brawl tomorrow night
Rutgers Univ. in New Jersey doesn't charge for parking a bike, we park bikes in all kinds of spots (like by bicycle racks, by statues, by building doors) and never see a ticket :thumb: . BUT if we park on a lot, we need a bike space, and those are only on lots with meter checker ladies, so the ladies ask us to show ID.
It is very nice to see so many colege riders here... I went riding with a couple of great guyes from NJ, but both of them have families and that's just not the same. I was begining to think that I was the only student on the board :( .
QuoteIt's not the cages it's their drivers and 1% of bikers
Green River Community College in Auburn Washington.
I pay nothing a year and the motorcycle only parking is right infront of the main campus buildings. Way closer than any of the car spots.
My school is very motorcycle friendly.
Been out for a while, but when I was at U of Houston I joined the Alumni Organization and got an alumni hang tag for $35/year. Much better than the student parking price at the time.
I don't know where I would hang it on the bike though. :)
Yeah i have the same problem, im at seneca at York U in canada and i got 100 dolllar ticket for first time offence without warning! :guns:
The cost of a parking pass is astronomical and i dont need it for a whole semester (damb canadian snow) Already talked to parking enforcement but got no where. suggestions????
Warren
I park it on my back porch. I have an on-campus townhouse
