So I've been looking at pictures of everyone's bike and I started wondering why won't my seat close the gap with the tail plastics. see the gap?
I can confirm that the latching mechanism is fully engaged.
I can also confirm the plastics are on correctly.
it looks like the whole back of the tail is angled up consistently. Are you sure a previous owner didn't put some spacers under the seat latch or something goofy like that?
the rubber feet on the under side of the seat look like they belong from what i can tell by the parts fiche. i tried taking some of them off but that didn't do anything.
I'll take a picture of the underside tomorrow.
Nothing between the latch and the subframe? Some pictures may make it easier to tell.
Looks like the PO cut off the tail of the seat. Did the PO have some rear carrier on the bike?
Does it look recovered?
Compare to the seat on someone's bike.
Looking closer, the back isn't down far enough. Spacers added to the seat latch on the bike or under side of the seat?
Check to see if you're missing some of the grommets that the side panels mount in... the tail pieces may be down a little at the back...
I have seats that lip up like that at the back too -either from being off the bike in warm temps for too long (seat cover tension plus warm temps lets the plastic bow up..). It may have been stuffed in a box too long (am speaking about my seat...).
It doubt it's been cut... and probably not recovered...
Adidas has a few pretty seats for sale...
hard to tell but it doesn't look like anything has been modified. pic will have to wait till work is over :icon_sad:

The other thing you may be looking at is a theft attempt...or at least someone trying to get under the seat without a key.
it probably was a break in attempt. the bike was also missing the seat lock

so some jackars prying the seat up permanently deformed the seat in that position :icon_question: hmmmm

The plastics go on with 3 plastic tabs and one screw on each side. Pretty hard for those to be out of place.
We really need photos of the back end of the seat including the underside of it and the seat lock on the seat and the frame.
If you need seat lock - which part? The key, frame latch or the part on the under side of the seat?

I think all of the old seats had that lip at the back, doesn't look deformed. You can tell it's not just the back of the seat that's bent though because if you look at the line of the seat along the plastic you can see it's just a consistant growing gap. Something is holding the rear of the seat higher than the front, but it's still a straight seat. Maybe we're looking at it wrong and there's actually something lowering the front of the seat. The seat latch isn't at the very back of the seat so if the front was dropped it might tip the back up. Either way I think your seat and bodywork is ok, there's just some reason the seat isn't mounted right that we're not catching.
The tails can drop a little if the grommets are missing (or if the bolts aren't in it...but it would rattle a lot..). We figured it out --The back of the seat was pulled up an an attempt to the release it and the seat pan is now warped up ( it's plastic... not exactly a steel spring..).
He's already paid me for the part he needs and it's already on the way to him. I even showed him how to " re-key " the cylinder to match his key.
This wont fix the seat ( so he may want one of your pretty ones Adidas)- you might try a heat gun and try bending it it down...and keep it held straight or past straight over night to see if you can get it looking the way you want..
My curved seat may have the same origin....(I've had a few parts bikes here out of the 17-18 Gs's I've had... could be off one of them..)..could have been pried up to get it off.
Hmm.... maybe the lock broke and a PO tried to pull the seat up (rather than reach under and manually pull the short cable to release the seat). That would explain the missing lock.
But to steal something from under the seat? If someone did that, they sure didn't know bikes and that there's not really anything under there to steal except a battery and cheap tool kit.

alright here we go, got some pics.

two grommets seem to be missing (green circles) but that shouldn't affect fitment. the others seem to be the standard stuff (red circles) but when i looked under the seat while it was latched in, those grommets do not make contact with the frame (about a 3/8" gap.

the bracket is fully hooked into the lock assembly (pic below), so it seems this part is too tall. i looked on bike bandit and there are different part no.'s for the later years. i guess this part was damaged and replaced with a newer version :dunno_black:
can someone measure the height of this part from a older model please?

The front grommets missing will drop the front of the seat and make the tail go higher.
They are 3/8" high, hard rubber. Stick something there and see what that makes the tail look like. Or just get the bumpers. Same round bumper for new and old seats. Or find a piece of hard rubber and put 3/8" strips on your frame or the seat.
