Title: How do you get the forks level when reinstalling them?
Post by: zirconx on April 30, 2011, 07:01:13 PM
I removed my forks today and took them to the shop for fork seals. I am wondering about reinstalling them - it doesn't seem like there are any stops to slide them to. So how do you get them exactly level in the top clamp? It seems like this would be pretty important since if they are off the axle wouldn't be level?

Measure how much of the fork comes thru the top clamp.

And it doesn't need to be exact- a millimeter difference wont hurt. The springs and such will compensate.

Ah, yes I forgot about the springs. Eyeballing it should be close enough then. Thanks.

We totally just did this haha. Just got for it and eye them up, you'll be fine.

I also like to loosely tighten the axle pinch bolts/axle nut, have a buddy help you and grab and lift the front tire off the ground a few inches then drop it, do this a few times it supposedly centers the fork legs onto the axle, then tighten fully.
