Title: Replacing exhaust, rejetting, oil change, and maintenance
Post by: gitarooman83 on April 30, 2011, 07:26:01 PM
This coming weekend I'm planning on changing the oil, rejetting the carbs, installing jardine exhaust, and performing the first 600 mile maintenance. It's going to be a long day...

Just out of curiousity, is there any reason I shouldn't do  all these things at once?

If you are gonna be pulling the headers off when you change the exhaust it would be a good idea to do the oil change then while it is all off and out the way. Only thing I can suggest really. Goodluck with it all.

Just a question about removing the exhaust, is it just remove the two bolts from each side and then the pipes come straight out?

You also have to take the bolt out of the passenger peg to get the can off but yes it is that simple.  The exhaust gaskets are not reusable so make sure you have new ones.  Good luck   :thumb:

I want to get the jardine exhaust. What all do I have to do when putting this on. Oil filter, air filter, rejet.    Do I have to do all these things just to have exhaust....... :technical:

Speaking of these bolts.. any idea where I can purchase a couple more... They keep coming lose and are so rusted i am afraid to really tighten them down because they appear to be ready to strip the head right off...

8 X 35 stainless allen heads and the right washers, put in antiseize and put em on.
Cool.

Awesome.. will pull 1 off and match the washer... Wanted to sand and paint the exhaust so sounds like this is the perfect time.

Forget bolts........find some 8mm chrome plated studs and nuts, custom shops are best. Screw the studs in as tight as you dare, use locking compound if you want, and then use the nuts to hold the header flange onto them......Who cares if the studs wont come out?? Do it this way and they will never have to ever again, chrome nuts wont sieze on a chrome stud unless you park the bike in the ocean every night and if Suzuki hadn't tried to save 0.15yen on every GS5 they sold they would have done it this way themselves at the design stage and no one would ever have to face the nightmare of having the header bolt seize up and shear off.

Well one of the exhaust bolts doesn't want to come loose... Any recommendations on how to get it out without stripping it?

Ahh... crap....
Just reread your post and this is exactly the problem I am having....
Couldn't get it off with just a regular key, going to stop by harbor freight and pick up a socket set with the alan extension on it and see if that will get the thing off....
