Hey GSers,
Has anyone ever installed a stereo on their GS? If so, I'd like to hear about it - what kind of stereo, and did you install it on a naked or faired GS? Where did you mount the speakers, where did you stash the amp, and was it easy to get the wiring done? How much did it cost, all told?
I haven't personally done it on a GS or considered doing it since the bike is too small to be turned into a real laid back touring machine.
As for installation on an F model, It should be easy if you get small marine grade speakers and mount them in the little black covers on either side of the tank. The actual player can even be a cheap, non marine grade portable mp3 player as long as you stash it under the seat with water proof controls wired somewhere up front. A small amp can also be stashed under the seat. You just have to get creative about it. You will probably be the first to do this ... atleast in documented GS500 history. :thumb:
I thought about doing it.. I had a buddy who did it on a GSXR 600.. Marine grade 3.5" speakers next to the gauges in the fairing, a small amp made for motorcycles under the seat and a headphone jack plug routed up to the top triple tree with an iPod case for jogging strapped to the top tripple. It was loud as hell to be heard over the loud exhaust and it worked great. If my GS had a fairing, I would do it.

The main unit/battery attaches to the helmet with either an adhesive pad or bolted clip - the microphone extends along the side in front of your mouth and there is a cabled speaker that you fit next to your ears, attaching to the helmet fabric with a velcro pad
It feels weird at first using the intercom and bluetooth phone inside your helmet!
Just this weekend we were riding through some very twisty roads at high speed and apart from talking endless amounts of shaZam!, we were able to warn each other about water over the road, red lights, police, speed cameras, everything!

I like those. Do they sell them individually and can you use 3+ at a time together?
I think you can pair a max of two to each unit - but you can only communicate to one user at a time.
Great if you wanna talk some slang about your pillion to your mate riding next to you!
