Title: Spring starting, idling, dying...
Post by: chris_craft on May 08, 2011, 11:26:14 AM
Need some help with my 89.
I used to always just set the choke and start the bike fine.
This spring i have to set the petcock to PRI so i can start the bike. I switch it to normal and it idles high until it warms up. After it is warm it will loose idle and stop running.
If have to set it to PRI again to get it running but i can't set it back to Normal or give it any throttle or it will choke and die.
I am going to take it to the shop but i'd like to have a couple of ideas before i go in.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.
P.S. i have been messing with the idle screw and now i dont know where it is set at.

Hmmmm.....did you put any stabil or anything in the tank before winter? I think your carbs need cleaned out and there is something wrong with the vacuum to the petcock.

Sounds like your carbs may just need to be cleaned, if it wasn't ran all winter the gas in it could have gone bad, and it could be clogging up your jets.

What kind of screen is that on your bike? Is it secured to your mirrors?
