Admin, for your consideration here is the plugin for tapatalk for use with iphone and android handsets. It would be great to see gstwins using this as most of the other large bike communities already do and is a great way to browsw from mobile. thanks

Also I'm on a iPhone 3GS and posting replies tends to stuff often in a long reply such as if i have quoted someone I can't actually see what I am typing because the message box does not scroll and it stuffs up so I must guess that I am not making typos etc then preview and try to fix if necessary... Tapatalk will make forum browsing on droid and iPhone a dream trust me ;)

I definitely agree Tapatalk is great. I installed it on a forum that I manage at a user's request and find it's much better than using the browser.
I have an OG Droid running CM7 and have no problem using the forum through the browser, it's just that it's an awkward UI for a touch screen. Tapatalk is a native app that basically gives it a more integrated interface - it makes it more like using the built in email or messaging apps.
It can also do notifications. Never used 'em, but it can supposedly do it.
The only downside is the app costs money - but fortunately is free for the server. I think it was only a buck or two though.
Sorry mate I should have elaborated, he agreed to install it next time he took the server down for maintenance, don't know how regularly that happens.. Maybe he forgot lol
This website looked ok on my g/f's Blackberry (that her work pays for) when I went camping last year. I don't see a problem. I don't use internet on my phone and I'm not sure why so many people do. You have a much more powerful computer at home, work, friend's houses, almost everywhere you go, so why spend more for an inferior computer in your pocket or purse?? Is walking ten feet that important to you that you're willing to spend another $75/month to have it in your pocket? I mean, if you're anything like me, you're already paying for computers and internet access, so why pay twice?
I look at it through the prism of computing power/dollar/ease of use, and to me that means keep your Wi-Fi laptop at home on dry-loop DSL, you have computers galore at work and friend's houses, not to mention you can go to Mc Donald's or Tim Horton's and get free Wi-Fi if you want or need, and use your cell for talk and text only. That's my take on the whole thing. :thumb:

The install is pretty easy - especially if you allow SMF to install plugins through the web interface. The hardest part setting up the Tapatalk account, but that can be done before hand.

Actually it's only an extra $30/month and yes, yes I am. There are a lot of times I'm not near a computer, but need to be accessible via email or need internet access. Having an infinite amount of information at my fingertips is priceless. Plus, phones today are no more inferior than the computers of not too long ago - they're actually just pocket sized computers.
Ok, I am going to give it a try. So far, it's ok. On this forum large pictures will be easier to see. But on ADVrider large pics can be scrolled or pinch-zoomed.
I guess if your mobile device does not do web very well, then Tapatalk is a big plus. On iPhone and large screen android devices, not so much. If it was more than $3 I wouldn't do it. But I ride a GS500, so you know I'm really cheap!

I'm too cheap to pay the $3 (I've never paid for any app...is how cheap I am!).... Anyone kind enough to take pix of what their screens look like with this app running? I have 'droid FroYo. Online access works fine on it...but y'allz are giving Tapatalk such high praise..makes me curious..might be worth the $3..even to a cheapskate such as mahseff.... ;)

honestly capt. i had originally brushed htis off as spam. but i retract that brushoff and apologise. and thank you. i never had a need for this app. cause my phones would reach the board fine. but this forum runs on this program. so andTGG and other staff approve too so ill say well done, and thank you for bringing it forward. btw like pandy said. can you or anyone here. put up a comparo between this forum WITH and WITHOUT tapatalk? to see what the difference is, especially if a phone can use it, both ways?. take care my friend. and hang around. :cheers:

I'll have to reinstall tapatalk, there was a bug with the new SMF, its fixed now, I'll reinstall it next time I take the server down for maintenance, which should be end of this month

Okay its fixed. Turns out they changed something in the versions, when I last updated the forum, it broke something in Tapatalk. Its fixed now.
Okay you may need to search for GS500 / GStwin to find it. It wouldnt let me change the forum info for the old version.
