As of this afternoon my wife's uncle was taken out on his bike by a P Plater (Probationary driver) running a red light. Sadly he didn't survive the accident and has left two kids behind.
Just makes me think about playing safely on the road. I'm not saying slow down or any crap like that just simple things like; check an intersection before you enter it, assume everyone is trying to get you, always have an exit plan, etc. He was on a large, crackling Harley and still got taken out, so sound and visual impact don't matter if the other person panics and hits you anyway.
Damn.. sorry to hear that. I hate how the motorcycle always seems to get hit in a red light running instead of another car where chances of survival would be higher. :dunno_white:

But, I don't "play" on the road! I am as serious as a heart attack playing is for the playground or other safe activity. I learned that from the BF we screw around all the time but when it comes to bikes no way no how. I won't ride my bike if I'm in a hurry or even in the wrong frame of mind. Alot of people say they blow off steam on the bike no if I'm not completely calm and focused on the chore at hand I'm not swinging a leg over. I sit out on the back porch for a few minutes do deep breathing exercises. On a bike you rarely get a second chance when making a mistake.
Tighten your chin staps fellas and throw on that jacket even if it is hot! Ride Safe and come home tonight.

Sorry to hear about your families loss. It seems to me some states do not emphasize "watch for motorcyclists" enough in their drivers training.

Being in a car in a side impact - specially driver's side impact - is no guarantee of safety. In a motorcycle, worse.
This is why I always check both ways before taking off from a green light and why I NEVER just focus ahead when riding/driving through an intersection and scan both sides for Threats.
What happened to your relative, Shaddow, is FUBAR. And it serves as a reminder of the dangers which face all of us - thank you for posting; a timely reminder.
