Title: New member - Hello!
Post by: BigRedMonkeyButt on November 14, 2003, 08:34:57 AM
Hey,
So Im new here.  I joined up because Im looking for a GS500 for my wife to learn to ride on - I dont want her dropping my SV.    :o

I learned on a 93 GS500e (my first bike), and then got a 95 GS500e, and they were great bikes.   The wife has been saying she wants to learn, but there just arent many lighter smaller cc bikes out there.  I've been debating the Bandit 400 (hard to find), a Kawi Zephyr, and the GS.
She was looking at pics of my old GS's the other night and actually said she liked it, so I think that's what Im going to go with.
So then comes the project of finding one.

Of course, Im mod crazy, so once I got it, I'd have to jet it, work on the suspension, exhaust, etc. etc.   Im sure this place will be a good source of info on that.

So anyway, nice to be here, and maybe if you guys know of any for sale, you can help me get back into the GS family.

Later,
Dave

Welcome and good choice on the GS. The Bandit 4 is sweet, but hard to find and even harder to find parts for. My buddy has one. More expensive to maintain too. Love the Zephyr too, but they're a little heavy for a starter bike IMO. Good luck, GS's are fairly easy to find!

Like your screen name dude.  :thumb:

My wife's bike is for sale to make room for an '04. And its already pretty modded out.  (cut and pasted 'cause I'm lazy)

It is an '00 with about  16K miles on it. It has been very well taken care of since new with all its services and oil changes done at or ahead of schedule. It has the following mods:

BT010 front tire with less than 2K miles on it.
Racetech .80 springs and oil.
EBC HH sintered front brake pad.
Stainless Steel front brake line.
Suzuki OEM front 1/4 fairing.
SV-650 "loli-pop" mirrors.
All bodywork painted (by a pro painter) Shoei Candy red.
Retro reflective white Suzuki logos.
Suzuki OEM case guards.
Sidestand shortened 1" so bike sits more securely.
FIXED fuel petcock and fuel lines replaced with LONGER clear lines and an inline fuel filter.
DynoJet jet kit installed.
V&H ignition advancer.
Yoshimura full exhaust.
K&N pod filter.
New chain with less than 2K miles.
BT45 rear tire.
Suzuki Gel seat.
Suzuki tank bra.
Priority Plus rear turn signal brake light flasher kit (can you see me now!).

It does have a few dings in the paint but they are all from just regular use and the bike has never been crashed. The frame sliders have been utilized a couple of times <G> but they are all from low or no-speed tip overs. It is otherwise mechanically great. Can even come with a matching used Shoei Syncrotec flip up helmet if you need one. $3,000.

KY isn't too far from Columbus Georgia. I'd be willing to meet you half way with it, say in Atlanta?

I have enough parts to put a good race bike together (and still have a healthy spares selection).

I'll sell my hoard for $1K...

PM or email me for more.
