Title: should i rejet a stock bike
Post by: LEMON8 on May 23, 2011, 01:51:08 PM
I have minor idle issues and i figure a good carb cleaning would be great and i could benefit from it a lot.

I got an 04 with 10k. never been serviced.

Which i was thinking since i'm there cleaning, i think i saw someone say stock bikes could gain from a minor/mild rejetting. I think since i'm doing so i would spring for a K and N filter as well. So back on topic would it make sense to rejet a stock bike or a bike with a K/N. Maybe have it run better, slightly faster on the cheap. What would be the recommendations on sizing and etc.

If you change from the stock filter or exhaust you'll have to rejet. A bunch of people here think you should rejet from stock anyway since the bikes tend to run lean, I don't have too much experience with that since the PO of my bike put a Yoshi pipe on and jetted it for that.

Agreed. The bike should be happier and last longer with a mild rejet. TheBuddha sells a jet kit that's pretty easy to install on a stock bike.

YES you can rejet a stock bike...with a bone stock 07" I went +1 on the pilot jet and +1 on the main jet , drilled out the plug and set the idle screw 3 turns out, improved warm up and throttle response, I turn the grip and it does something now

Stock Pilot Jet #17.5 went to a #20
Stock Main Jet #130 went to a #132.5

My jet change is very conservative, my best mileage with new jetting 69.8 Mpg

I would rejet. The stock jet sizes are lean to meet epa emissions standards. With fuel having ethanol in it,a jet will help as it takes more ethanol to run an engine.

Just did this mod. Definitely worth it. Throttle response improved dramatically.
