Title: A sad time for me.
Post by: jserio on May 26, 2011, 10:59:51 PM
I haven't posted anythiing in awhile but I have a bit of news that I'm sure of few of you would want to know. My grandfather, WWII veteran, Army Ranger, has passed. I got the call tuesday evening while at work.  :icon_sad: We have known for a while that he was sick. (cancer) So it's not a total shock, but still not much easier to deal with. He was a hero to me growing up. It's just so hard to put into words what I'm feeling. So many emotions. My uncle in New Mexico should have made it over to Arizona today to start working on his final affairs. I'm not sure yet when exactly his service will be. I do know that as a veteran it will be a military service. Ah, he'll be sorely missed.

I am very sorry for your loss.

Can I ask does the military play the last post at their services over there?

I'm not certain. I've only been to one military service. It was several years ago when my wife's grandfather passed. I remember that "Taps" was played. Not sure if they played anything else.

My dad told me when I talked to him that he thinks the local VA is who will be coordinating grandpa's service. I'm hoping to hear from my uncle tomorrow and hopefully he'll have more info for us.
