Saw a tic-tac sized piece of glass stuck in my tire yesterday. Pried it out and there was a gaping void in the tread where it came out.
Today it looks like it's "healed over" some, and the tire doesn't seem to be losing air. Should this be fine, or should I take it to a tire place and have them check it out?

I would say as long as it's not leaking air and hasent made it all the way through your ok. Keep an eye on it though.
I'm with dumbo for the most part. Take it easy, spin around the block a dozen times, see if the pressure went down any.
And I certainly don't see that applying some tire sealant to the damaged spot could hurt anything. It might not be necessary, but what harm could it do?
Spray some soap water on it. If it doesn't bubble, you are good :thumb:

Ah ha! Can't believe I didn't think of that...it's what I do to find leaks in bicycle tubes. I have some "self-vulcanizing" tire glue something or other from my bike tire repair kit. Maybe squirt some of that in there?
EDIT: The soap test revealed not a hint of bubbling, so I'm just gonna assume it's fine. Was a bit worried when I pulled that chunk of glass out of there.
BTW... you been running over road kill? What's the go with red tread?

Dude I have no idea what that is. Didn't really notice it until I took this picture. My best guess is a demon has inhabited my rear tire, and that's the physical sign.

LOL hope you don't live near many Catholics or they will be making a shrine outta your bike.
Don't even worry about it. You've probably got a bunch of little holes in your tire tread you don't even know about because the glass fell out before you caught it. My bicycle tires are riddled with glass holes. Some of them even have little pieces of glass still in them. Every time I change a tube I take a metal pick and spent 5 minutes going around the tire prying out little pieces of glass that wedged in there when I was riding. Chances are the cut isn't even as deep as the normal tread and isn't into the threads that are holding the tire together. Just check your tire for the next few days before you go out and then forget about it.
Im pretty sure the answer to this is no but i figured i would ask. Can you plug a mc tire like a car if you have like a nail hole?
You can, but since plugs aren't exactly known for their strength and longevity it's generally advised against. If a plug fails in a car you can pull over, but a sudden flat on a bike is a bit trickier.

Yessum you can. That's what the Emergency Repairts kits do... either glue and strip and plug - or - screw in plugs, twist off from applicator tool, insert CO2 canister that comes with kit to reinflate, ride off.
Both case, make a beeline to your enarest tire joint for repair/replacement as the case may be.
Those "foam in a can" can also get you home. But that is all they are for, getting you home.
