Title: Wind SUCKS
Post by: dsmirnov83 on November 15, 2003, 09:57:03 AM
I woke up today to find my bike lying on it's side. The massive winds we had over here in NJ blew it over... :x
The good news is that I have engen guards, so all the damage was to them + a scratch on the clutch lever  . The worst part of it was that it also put a tinny ding in my tank, and that might rust over if I don't paint it. Does anyone know what to use to fix that up (it's a black tank year 98 if that helps)???
It was very sad to see that while I was sleaping she decided to take a nap too, but I gues that is why I didn't get a faired bike in the 1st place.

Maybe you could get away with using a "Bits'n'bobs" sticker, or two to balance it up.

here in nyc (and i guess the tri-state area) we had like 60mph winds and the wind clean blew my cover off the bike! i looked for like 3 blocks in every direction to no avail....i got a new dowco cover for like $75 but i still prefer my old one....it rolled up into a much much smaller ball so i can take it around with me but the new one will BARELY fit into a bookbag! sucks....

Mine blew off too!  But I found mine :)
Next time make sure it's all hooked together underneath.  But if you want to feel better, if the cover stayed on the bike, maybe it the bike would have blown over too!  :o

Just curious...was it on the side stand or centre stand when it blew over? I usually try to put it up on the centre stand if it's particularly windy, hasn't fallen over yet *knock wood*

It was on the center stand and I think that's the reason for it being blown over. The cover stayed on the bike, which might be another reason for it being blown over...

I love the sticker idea :thumb: , but I think I'll just try to find clear gloss and treat it that way. Any one else having trouble keeping their bike up in high winds? Are there any solutions?

By the way it seems that if you put it on the side stand and place a brick under the frame on the other side, the bike becomes very stable. This is how it stayed up that last windy day...

Chears and good luck... oh one more thing... in PepBoys there is a cover that rols up into a four fist size package which fits wonderfully on the GS if you guys are interested I can look for the make and size... it's about $40.

I have to store my bike outside, and i was worried about the wind.  it blew my old bike's cover off which i still have not found :x  . The gs came with a really heavy canvas cover that was flapping all over when i got up thursday morning. I tied it off at the bottom and used my bike lock & cable to secure the Gs to the stair railng.  ;)

The side stand is more stable than the center stand in windy areas. At least that is what I have read.

If you have a cover on, it will act like a sail and pull your bike over. If you can, park next to a wall, so that the bike is leaning toward the wall and hopefully the wind wont get under the bike between the wall and bike...this is where you need to pay attention to where the wind is coming from. Try to put the bike in the lee of the building.

haha park between 2 cars that are kinda close...ur covered on both sides!  when they get in the car and drive off the bike falls and ud be watching from ur window and u can yell HEY U KNOCKED MY BIKE OVER! (if the bike was leaning on the car) and u get someone to pay for the damage u wouldve gotten from the wind blowing it over....unless they saw before that the bike was leaning on the car
OK STUPID IDEA
