Title: Anyone have a Gas Tank they'll let go cheap?
Post by: Wrightboy on June 02, 2011, 06:13:32 PM
Just one thing after another...

Gas tank apparently was full of holes (rust) and the PO patched it up and sealed it. Paint swelled and it's started leaking in like 4 spots this week.

Been checking out my options, was thinking about seeing if it would be welded (if I could find anyone who knew how to do it safely). But I wanted to check and make sure no one had an old tank lying around they can gaurentee will hold for at least a year. Seriously haven't gone an entire week without running into an issue with this bike.

It's a 90 EL if that makes any difference.

Thanks,
Wright.

There's one off an '06 on ebay right now for about $75 shipped, but unless you have one of the newer seats that won't fit on your bike.

Yes it will fit and you do not need a newer seat. You just need to make brackets to hold the front of the tail plastics.I have an 89 with an 04 tank and stock 89 seat.

That's good to know, I assumed that the new tanks don't fit with the old style seats, since they changed the seats when they changed the tanks.

It's a little more to it than a dirrect swap, but nothing that a few hours on the weekend and some cheap supplies won't cure.
