Title: Follow up carb questions
Post by: thecdn on June 12, 2011, 10:06:33 AM
I had previously made this post - http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=56472.0 - about issues with my son's 05 GS500F leaking gas out (as it turned out to be) the butterfly pivot and starting poorly. I thoroughly cleaned the air filter and connected a hose from the air box to the top of the engine, there was none there before.

The bike starts fine now and runs well but there is still a small amount of gas leaking out of that same spot. Following the pics from this thread - http://www.angelfire.com/mt2/mikesgs500/rejetting/ - I took the tops of the carbs and this is what I found.

There is enough difference from the model in the example and my son's bike that I don't really know what I'm looking at. Is mine bad/good and in what way? Is there anything I can do in general other than cleaning things out and making sure they go back together correctly?

I don't yet have a proper manual for this bike and I'm leery of going any further with carbs. Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Looks fine to me, but maybe I'm missing something.  Just make sure the needles aren't dirty or bent and seat the same when inserted.

Did you check the float height?  http://gstwin.com/float_height_check.htm

The top of those slide guides look rashed, but that shouldn't be an issue.I'd clean everything really good and put it back together.I have never lubed the slides but someone on here recommended using 2 stroke oil.

Where do you guys buy carb kits? I saw Carb Kit Capital mentioned in one post but the closest it has for my 05 GS500F is "GS500E (1989-1993) Carb Rebuild Kit". Will that work for this bike?

You will need two kits.
