Hey everyone! I finally bought my first bike! Its got 72xx miles and I bought it for 2k. I'm taking my msf course this weekend and I can't wait to get my license so I can go out on the road and actually have a useful bike. So far I've put some accent lighting on the bottom because I have always liked it on bikes. My next step will be. Fenderectomy to further improve the appearance. I'm photographer on the side so I have some of the equipment to produce some nice photographs.

Enjoy. Btw I'm in the dc/nova area if anyone wants to ride. :D
Nice pictures.
If only my cheap camera and I had the skills to take awesome shots like these. Nice work and welcome to the forums :thumb:
I'd love to ride, but I'm in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Sick pics!!!!!
Those are some sick pictures man, I love that first one. I've had 4 bikes and the GS is my current one and I must say I am very surprised at it. I've had an 06R6, an 08 Ninja 10R and an 09 Ninja 650R and I must say that the GS is an excellent bike. I bought it to be my commuter but I think its a great bike anyway. Have fun with it and be safe.
nice bike, chicks will see you rolled up all geared up to a shop and they'll be asking you to give them a ride :thumb:
Yes, nice pics! You've definitely got an eye for photography.
Your bike looks great! I'm thinking I may have paid too much for mine with 14k at around 2500 but... I do love my bike. It's an '04 F too. I had a similar problem with my front right turn signal but I was able to fix it by unscrewing one bolt on the inside of the turn signal and reassembling it.
Your bike looks like mine, including crooked front reflectors.
I made it my background. Nice Photography!!

If you mean the turn signals, mine looked exactly the same. It was super easy to fix with an adjustable wrench (maybe a screwdriver, but certainly no more tools than that and no longer than ten minutes). I think the previous owner had simply bumped into one or two things causing part of the turn signal to pop out of the rubber piece that anchors it to the fairing. I didn't have to undo any wire, super easy fix.
Hey guys. I have my license! I passed my msf and, I'm going to brag on myself a little i scored the highest in the class of ~40 people. I rode Ilene to work today, the bike that is. It was a joy :). I also did a minor Fenderectomy to see if I liked it. I liked it so I ordered some led tail lights to replace the stock ones and do an uber Fenderectomy. They are LED turn signals. will that cause any problems? Here are some before and afters.

Problems = cut off fenders being illegal in your jurisdiction and you getting fined and a notice to rectify the fender and present for inspection to remove bike defect notice. When you ride through wet, water will rooster tail behind you and make the bike of your bike dirtier.

Looks good. I too am replacing my signals, the 80's style amber fattys that come on the bike are pretty fugly. I flip flopped over LED's or bulbs and ended up going with the ones below. I picked them up for 13.99/pair. I'll be putting them on this weekend and will post some pics. They are a direct fit which was nice. These are clear lenses with a bulb (not LED). The stock are to my knowledge 12v, 21w bulb and the ones I bought are 23w so they *should* be as bright if not a tad brighter. We'll see.

Is this for sure the law in VA? I did some digging and came up with this
"§ 46.2-1083. Rear fenders, flaps, or guards required for certain motor vehicles.
No person shall operate on a highway any motor vehicle or combination of vehicles having a licensed gross weight in excess of 40,000 pounds unless the motor vehicle or combination of vehicles is equipped with rear fenders, flaps, or guards of sufficient size to substantially prevent the projection of rocks, dirt, water, or other substances to the rear. Vehicles used exclusively for hauling logs and tractor trucks shall be exempt from the provisions of this section.
(Code 1950, § 46-294.1; 1954, c. 403; 1958, c. 541, § 46.1-290; 1960, c. 120; 1981, c. 304; 1989, c. 727.)"

Also. I may have found the actual laws about Motorcycle equipment in VA
See:http://goo.gl/FE9fK
I also wrote an e-mail to the state police guy for legal equipment here, so we'll see! Thanks for the tip though! I sure hope it's legal or i'll have to fab something up at the shop tomorrow!
Here are the one's I got. They are very similar to ^^

If they are any good, I will probably get another set for the front. :D
Got in touch with the Sergent of the VA State police, he said there was no requirment for a rear fender in VA. :thumb:
P.S. Really nice guy too.

Started my über fenderectomy today :D. Everything was going fine till I ran out of shrink tubing :(. So I'll have to make the bracket for the license plate tomorrow and finish up the wiring before our local car show tomorrow night :D. Here are some progress pics:

here is a video mock up of the working blinkers. I actually kinda like the quick blinking, but if I did want to fix that, what would that involve?

Upgrade to an EL-12 flasher when you upgrade the winker lights. It keeps the winkers winking at a stead rate as they are designed to do.
Here's the relay.I think I gave less than $6 for it.

Thanks for that Ben2go! Well I finally finished my über-fenderectomy. I think it looks so much more clean than with that huge mud guard. Here are some photos.

I'm now looking at the front turn signals. I can't seem to decide what to do with those signals. I really want flushmounts, but I realize the contour problem with the fairings. I'm thinking about doing something custom, perhaps something fiberglass, but I really don't want to have to paint anything... Maybe I'll get some similar signals to the rear. Anyone have some recommendations either flush or stalk? Something higher quality between 25-50$?
Thanks!
You're welcome.
mirror signals are always a good route if your shooting for clean lines... I saw a CL GS500F with turn signals integrated above the headlight fairing, http://cheapmotorcyclesforsale.org/suzuki-gs-gs500fk-2005-gs500-suzuki-gs500f-black-gs-motorcycle-custom-nr/
seems kinda cool, drill cut drop and fill in old holes....
Bike looks good!
I can't make any recommendations on front turn signals, I'm still happy with mine but I would definately class them as "budget" signals and not super high quality. I toyed with flush mounts but my buddy has them on his FZ6 and they are very hard to see, which is why I stuck with stalks. Cars dont see us on a good day so I didnt want to make matters worse...His are a few years old though so maybe they've gotten better. I really wanted some nice mirror/signals, but that was a little more than I wanted to spend at the moment....maybe next year.
