Not exactly a solo but an instrumental which essentially has bass and guitar solos. Metallica's Orion. One of the most beautiful instrumentals out there from a legendary band. Kirk Hammett is a guitar god.

Jimmy Page. Whole Lotta Love. 42 years later I have never heard a better 15-second guitar lick, IMHO. Eddie is the best I've heard since. Hot For Teacher and Eruption is his best work. Ask your local bands to play Hot For Teacher and watch the looks on their faces.
I have a problem with Joe Satriani. He may be the greatest guitarist on Earth, but it's more about "look how good I can play" rather than "let's make great songs". I've thought for years he needs to be in a band with a singer who actually sings rather than be mostly a studio musician. Instrumentals get old to me fast, like most people. He'd be much more famous if he did, like Eddie. Eddie is just as good (in fact they sound much the same) and has a great band to go with it. So I guess I think Joe works alone too much and doesn't have a team which hurt his career. You can accomplish much more with a team than by yourself. 30 years ago I expected Joe to become mega-famous. It never happened because he is apparently a loner. It's sort of like Jeff Beck all over again. Careers hurt by not utilizing the talent all around you.
