Hi everyone. I am the (sometimes) proud owner of a finicky, dented, dropped, and currently semi-defunct '95 GS500E. I bought this bike über cheap when I was living down in DC with a broken valve, and other issues, and after months of my not getting to fixing it sent it in for a top-end rebuild.
I recently sold my BMW F650GS Dakar, which was an amazing creature- so I figured now was the time to give the GS a little love. Of course, the love seems quite unrequited right now- though I suppose that's a tale for a different part of the forum.
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself.
Peace,
Mara
Here are some shots from the bike's IKEA stage:

Goodluck. Please do her justice, and dont chop her to bits then sell her because of a plugged carb...
Heck no! I've just spent weeks troubleshooting the idle speed (turned out I needed to adjust my idle screw...but cleaning and rebuilding the petcock couldn't have hurt) and dents or no dents the gs500 is such a great raw motorcycle! One good thing (sort of) about having your gs500e break down is that it isn't as much work as other bikes to get to what needs fixing. Also, I'm teaching my dad to ride and sometimes it's nice to have something pre-scratched!
That, and as I'm finding out, if something breaks ( or is vandalized), if you cant get the correct part cheap enough, parts from other Suzuki's work just fineeeee.
Ooh do tell bc I am in that exact situation with my airbox/cleaner which is currently sealed with heat tape...bought it that way, but I have been holding off on getting a perfect match because I had a suspicion there might be an alternative out there (I'm hoping its something I could nab off of someone's parts bike or something). Thanks for your help!
Peace,
Mara :woohoo:

That's the best part about riding a bike built out of spare parts and half of an old GS1000 engine!
