Title: Looking to duplicate the tail on this GS500
Post by: Alaskaflyer on June 20, 2011, 06:51:52 PM
I just picked up a 97 GS500E for 100 bucks, runs, just needs some attention and corrosion cleaned up, nothing too bad.  I really want to duplicate the tail like in the picture below.  Anybody know anything about this tail fairing.

Thanks

Gary

looks like a photoshop... but... that is also just the regular tail fairing cut off at the vent... so its doable... make a custom seat... yada yada

Why? Did you crash your bike? maybe you want to make a bike worthy of being added to the Bobber thread?

Just looking to do something different.  I like the way it looks too.  I've seen some bikes that put the tail from an R6 on.  I'm still quite a ways out on this project though, just started tearing it down a few days ago.

Some of the yamaha tails are a pretty easy swap. I had a 98-02 R1 tail on my old  bike and it pretty much just fit right on. I had to cut the back of the subframe a bit, but I didn't need to do any welding or anything of that sort. The front holes lined up with the bolts for the gas tank, and I bent some aluminum brackets out of scrap for the back.
