Title: It pays to know your neighbors!
Post by: bill14224 on June 22, 2011, 03:13:48 PM
I've been living here with my gal since last fall.  There's an old guy (75+) who lives very nearby who drives as if he's trying to make you have an accident with him, whether you're on a bike or in a car.  He is a moving oblivious obstacle and constant threat.  He wanders all over the road, never signals, and crawls.  I am not exaggerating.  I have followed him several times down the road that leads here and into our subdivision and his oblivious, careless driving is consistent.  Every several houses he looks like he's pulling over as he frequently slows to 20 or so, then hugs the curb to watch his neighbors cut the lawn or unload groceries, but then three seconds later he moves back into the driving lane, usually hogging the middle, always without looking.  He almost stops, but he doesn't actually stop.  He repeats the process until he gets to his house, then he makes a left into his driveway, again without signalling.  Lucky for me I was never impatient while following him the first few times.  If you're even a LITTLE impatient, you'll try to pass, then be side-swiped.  He's a moving trap, no lie, as he's always in his own world and he NEVER checks his mirrors.  I tried to pass him once and the only thing that saved me is I remembered he never signals and I've never seen him check his mirrors.  That made me hang back just a little, just enough, just in case.  At that moment, he moved back into the middle of the road.  I would have ended-up in my one of my neighbor's front lawns, if I could have managed to hit a driveway and miss the curbs.  If he ever goads me into being side-swiped it will be my fault because I already noticed he drives like shiite!!  :2guns:

Report that guy to the police, end of story.

Actually tell them he almost caused you to crash because of his behavior.

the DMV has anonymous driver complaint, if you complain, they will investigate, and ask him to come in for a drive test..

This guy does not have the ability to pass a road test anymore.  Not even close.  I think he passed in a model A.  I'll take care of it privately at the right time, because that's my way.  I'm not quick to call the cops, nor should you be.  If he were a young punk throwing beer bottles out the window who could knock the snot out of me without breaking a sweat, sure I'd call, but this is not the case.  Next time I see his wife in the yard I will tell her kindly and politely what is happening.  I know how to get results.  Tell Ma.  She may get mad at first, but that's OK, it'll work.  Where I live, seniors are an ultra-powerful political force.  The cops won't want to hear it.  They'll say "when he causes an accident, call us, until then, go screw yourself."

Four flat tires will make it hard for him to continue with that behaviour, or some snipped cables under the hook. Thats what you meant by taking care of it privately right  :2guns:
