Title: New rear tire won't hold air to seat bead
Post by: paalak on June 26, 2011, 08:10:32 PM
After installing a new front tire without issue, I'm having trouble getting the bead to seat on my new rear Pirelli Sport Demon 130. I've got it on the rim, but when I try pumping air into it it doesn't hold the air, the PSIs don't increase no matter how much I pump (got a good workout though  :D) Anything I can try to fix this or should I just take it to a tire shop?

Ratchet strap or come-along around the circumference of the tire- tighten  the strap or come-along - this will push the beads outward- a little soapy water on the bead will help too.

Ohh and a BIG shot of air all at once- How much air (PSI/Volume) air you hitting it with?

I'm just using a manual floor-pump, so not a very rapid air flow. I guess I'll go try the compressor at a gas station tomorrow, and maybe pick up a ratchet strap.

Ether and a match work also.Just make sure the wheel/tire is strapped down to something solid.

be very careful with fire in a tire get away from it when you light it. Try going down to the local chevron or whatever gas station and using there air pump it might just be enough to set the bead... also wiggle the tire as your setting it, if you wiggle it just right it can seal and pop on, water and soap is always great! No hand pump will ever have the flow unless theres a seal already somewhere there...

The pumps at a few of the petrol stations I've been to have a setting for setting the beads on wheels. Didn't help me at the time, because it turns out there was a big hole in the sidewall.
