IV had a leak from my crank case gasket since I bought the bike 3 years ago. I have ordered & received the gasket I'm wondering if anyone has done this replacement and if there was anything I need to watch for when removing /installing. I have already verified its not the oil seal dip stick location. I will pull pipes n drain oil first any advice is welcome

You mean, one of the engine cover gaskets? General advise...
1. Gasket remover works great, but eats paint.
2. Clean the old gasket thuroughly.
4. Don't use a foot pound torque wrench on the bolts.
5. Grease the gasket before installation; it makes removal easier.
A gasket swap is pretty straightforward.
The engine case doesn't have a gasket.It has a bonding cement to seal it.The side covers have gaskets.Do not use and sealer at all on them.The sealer that squishes out inside can plug oil passages.The oil trying to seep past the gasket will cause it to swell up and seal.Also,do not stick anything between the cover and case mating surfaces.They will get damaged enough to cause a permanent leak.There are tabs on the covers to use to pry them loose.Be gentle they will crack easily.
You will have to pull to get the generator cover off, but pretty much any other cover is most easily dislodged with a blow or two from a rubber mallet. You absolutely must have one in your toolbox when working on a motorcycle.
It was cake I have the Manual also so I took her apart n now Im soaking the case to soften up the old gasket.... I think I could have skipped this step if I had just used my trusty drumel...I'm in no rush tho ill put her back together tomorrow n let u guys know
O one last thing when I took the screws out there was one smaller than the rest I you were looking at it it would be top right. As well the neck on this screw was different from the rest. It was completely threaded in like the rest. Does any one know if this is normal? I'll try to find it in a diagram.
Also I was almost thinking off stopping by auto shop to by a roll off gasket material and making some copies to sell cheap ...wounding if there is any demand for something like this.

I just went through this and as I recall, there were 3 different lengths of screws/bolts that all have the same head. Mixed mine up and had to look at it for a while to figure out where and why the shorter or longer ones went. Guess I got it right because the bike runs fine now and no leaks, although it is only running on the stand in the garage for tuning right now.
A quick look at the GS500 Fiche should show you what goes where. Compare parts counts for the bolts to figure it out, or just use some gold old fashion logic.
