If I wanted to buy a complete carb assembly instead of continually beating my head against the current carbs that mock me and taunt me and crush my spirit are there other years that will fit the 05 GS500F?
Background - I finally got the courage to replace the float valves and float housing/gaskets on the weekend. Now, when I start the bike up it runs fine but when you give it gas the idle stays up and won't go down. A quick search on this forum showed me the many, many issues people have with high idling with these bikes. I took the bike to my motorcycle mechanic yesterday and he said he had an identical bike with the same problem not long ago and could find a solution. That wasn't a good sign.
I have given up.....

post generally where you are located and see if somebody carb savvy is semi local to you they might help

Im in tampa, but im not too great with carbs, I can do a sync and mixture adjustment, check for leaks, and pull your plugs?

Did those things. Carbs seem to be a very specialized item to work on. My neighbour is a car mechanic with his own shop who has looked after both my cars for years. He balks at the mention of carbs and says he sends them out to a specialty shop.
Idle hover = pilot jet or air screw. 1 size larger pilot jet or open air screws 1/2 turn. But make sure you dont have vacuum leak or a hanging cable.

Will try openning the air screws, are they the ones on the underside covered by a brass cap if it isn't drilled out yet? Can they be adjusted with the carbs on the bike?
Do you know the answer to my original question as to which year carbs will work with the 05 GS500F? I have to get this issue fixed soonest as my son has to ride my bike while his is down....
Yes under side of the carbs, under the brass cap, if they are drilled out you can adjust with the carbs on the bike, else it has to be removed and drilled then you can do it on the bike or off.

my hanging idle problem was due to a clogged right carb pilot jet, it was dragging the idle down and I had the idle turned up too far to compensate... caused the idle to hang at 3k till I pulled it down with the clutch... Cleaned the carbs really well and adjusted the idle with the engine burning hot (20-30 min spirited drive). I put the idle right above the 1k mark (you can see the whole 1k bar and a hairline sliver of black then the RPM needle) and my problem was no more... :woohoo:
