I am contemplating the rear shock upgrade, but an answer that has eluded me in all of the posts that I have seen on here is whether or not a GSX 650F rear shock is a direct replacement for a '06 500f rear? Seems like the prices for the ones I can find on eBay are about the same of less than the Kat 600 shocks, so why not go with something newer....if it will bolt on directly without modification.
Great site and thank you in advance for anyone who wants to chime in with a response.

No one has tried it, and for good reason, it is such a new bike we dont get that many on fleabay.
Let me look on fleabay, though I may not be a good guesser if it will fit.
Cool.

$12.49, cant beat that.
BTW the 650 katana shocks does look like it would fit but need the linkage to be ground.
That is a 90's 750 shock, fits right in no grinding needed.
Cool.

Thanks Buddha. This listing shows several pic angles. It looks identical to me with the exception of the seemingly updated lower mounting point.

Looks close, let us know the results!!!
See if you can stuff that linkage in place of your bike's steel one. The 89-90 ones had aluminum, all later ones have steel.
It looks good, but fit it on and let us know.
Cool.

DIRECT replacement.
You can find cheaper ones (about $30-45 is reasonable).
You may want to grind the swingarm just a tad to improve clearance. It may not be necessary if you ride alone.
EDIT: If I remember correctly all years 2006-2009 work. I have 2008, yellow.
$45

the gsx650f is just another cheap bike like the gs500 so why would you bother... makes me wonder if they use the same shock

No different. Entirely different, different than the kat one too. I'd say functionally it is likely to be in the same league as the 89-96 kat 6.
Cool.

The new GSX650F is based on old Suzuki tech from the 90's.I'm surprised that it made it through emissions to be sold in the US.
got the shock in the post yesterday.
suspension's not on the top of my to do list, but i'll make sure to update this thread when test fit it
Cool. I'm looking forward to hearing your results....I thought I was going to have to be the guinea pig!
