I just crossed my way on this web page and found a set of specs for GSs over the years, and they look really interesting but not very trustable, how come the early models did have an impresive 52HP power and later models are going on and on weaker??? By the way, anyone knows about the suppousedly 4 valves per cilinder '04 specs???
Check this out:

Also, the wheelbase changes by 2 cm. Obviosly there were restricted models, but I meant the unrestricted ones... I'd love to have all those ponies available.
Cheers
52 HP is at the crank. Let me repeat... 52 hp is at the crank. Again 52hp is at the crank :o
At the rear wheel its about 40HP and seeing rear wheel dyno's are what everyone in the world uses to measure power thats the number that matters. A nicely tuned, piped and jetted GS makes 42-44hp on average. Shave the head to bump up compression slightly and the number swells to 46-48.
ps. 52hp is at the crankshaft. -why does the manufacturer use this number :dunno: Because it sounds a lot better than 40
was that at the crank? 8)

yea. How did you know?
I'm cranked.
I heard a rumour... :nana:
btw suzukicycles.com says DOHC so I'm guessing its only a 4 valve engine, 2 per cyl

Where did you say all those 52 ponies were??? ;)
I thought it was a mistake, Suzuki's or mine, otherwise EX500s wouldn't be more powerful than GSs... to bad it was only a misinterpretation.

That's right, it only has 2 valves per cylinder. In the first years 52 hp was quoted, but after 92'- 93' or so emission regulations became more strict and the carbs were set up leaner. The later GS's in Europe are 45 hp. (all at the crank).
My GS (europe-holland) came with #120 jets. When I put in the #125's it made a big difference in acceleration and speeds above 60mph. The engine runs also cooler.
